Wills India Fashion Week | An Equal Music
Designer couple Pankaj and Nidhi showed what lyrical fashion looks like
(Pankaj and Nidhi’s collection was an equal music between wearability and artistry)
No big fan of poetic press releases that use waxy words, I read Pankaj and Nidhi’s collection note called Music Box with amusement. “What would the world be without music?" began the note.
So thank god for music, I muttered to myself, not realizing that I will happily eat my words in the next fifteen minutes and instead mutter thank god for good fashion.

Structure, thought, work, craft, modernity and deft story telling, it had everything.
Merino wool (that the designer couple developed last year after winning the India leg of the International Woolmark Prize), silk jerseys and soft, wearable leather were used to create garments in red-chintz, blue-blacks, fuchsia, burnt and neon oranges and navy.
The silhouettes were simple but versatile—slim skirts, jackets cinched at the waist, long dresses, jumpsuits, that could be interpreted for many body shapes and sizes.
Pankaj-Nidhi used fine crewel-embroidery (known to be more than a thousand-year-old embroidery technique done with wool to create surface decoration on garments or tapestries); as well showed clothes with lattice work, wool applique, thread work and prints.

The styling was simple and strong: sleek, pulled back hair, make-up that joined the chorus without singing its separate song, heeled Mary Jane shoes worn with short, coloured nylon socks.
“A collection that promises to be music for the eyes," that same press release had said. Right: this was equal music between wearability and artistry.
