Wills India Fashion Week | The handloom brigade
Too many young designers are trying to tell a handloom story. But how will they make their brands distinct?
Day Two at the ongoing Wills Lifestyle India Fashion Week’s Autumn/Winter 2013 collection started with a very nice show with collections by three designers. Paromita Banerjee’s Boro; Tanvi Kedia’s Tribal Winds and a beautiful small collection by Ruchika Sachdev’s Bodice. Each had a handloom persuasion--Banerjee’s dressed down jamdanis, malkha cottons and khadis, Sachdev’s jackets with novel, beaded patchwork in what appeared like reassuring well-worn fabrics and Kedia’s embroidered jackets and other pieces in gypsy silhouettes. All good. Each designer has her own voice which spoke clearly.
