The ruling BJP has crossed the majority mark in the Haryana assembly and was leading on 49 seats, while the Congress was ahead on 35, according to the latest trends available on the Election Commission website.
Among prominent candidates, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, Congress leaders Bhupinder Singh Hooda, Vinesh Phogat, Udai Bhan, Independent candidate Savitri Jindal, were ahead on their respective seats. However, senior BJP leader Anil Vij, INLD's Abhay Singh Chautala and JJP's Dushyant Chautala were trailing.
Olympians Vinesh Phogat and Bajrang Punia — well known for their athletic prowess as well as for leading the wrestlers' protest against then WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh — had entered the political arena last month by joining the Congress.
Candidates in Fray in Julana
Phogat is in the fray up against former Army captain and BJP candidate Yogesh Bairagi for the Julana seat in Haryana. Other competitors include incumbent Julana MLA and Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) candidate Amarjeet Dhanda, and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) candidate and wrestler Kavita Dalal.
The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) won the Julana seat from 2009 to 2019. The Congress has last won this seat in 2005.
‘Fight for Service, Justice’
After Phogat met with former Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda she told reporters her new journey is not just politics but a fight for service and justice on a new platform.
When asked if she hopes to be a minister in Haryana, Phogat said, “It is not in my hands [to become a minister], it is in the hands of the high command...". She added, “I don't want to be limited to Julana but work for the entire state…"
‘Vote for Party that Works for Rights of Women’
Speaking to reporters after casting her vote, Phogat urged people to “vote for the party that works for rights of women".
After casting her vote in Charkhi Dadri, Phogat said, “It is a huge festival for Haryana and a very big day for the people of the state. I am making an appeal to the people of the state to come out and cast their votes. 10 years ago, when Bhupinder Hooda was the chief minister, the level of sports in the state was really good."
Vinesh Phogat urged people to “vote for the party that works for rights of women, you all know which party I am speaking of." Phogat was quoted by news agency ANI as saying, “Hope of victory is always there, today is the day to vote. People have not forgotten what the BJP did to the farmers and others."
‘Token of Gratitude’
Hooda told Hindustan Times that fielding Vinesh Phogat in the upcoming Assembly election is Congress party’s “token of gratitude" for the Olympian wrestler’s services to the country.
Vinesh Phogat’s candidature has elicited criticism from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) with many leaders calling her a Congress leader, and not the country’s daughter who was ‘wrongly denied’ an Olympic medal. In fact, Vinesh’s cousin and BJP leader, Babita Phogat accused Hooda of causing rift in the Phogat family by fielding her.

As per the latest ECI trends at 2.00 PM, BJP is leading in 48 seats, followed by Congress leading in 37 seats. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) and Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) were seen to be leading with one seat each while Independents and smaller parties were leading in three seats.
Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini led from the Ladwa constituency. As of 2.00 PM, Saini was leading with 59,871 votes over Congress' Mewa Singh.
Bhupinder Singh Hooda was seen leading from the Garhi Sampla-Kiloi seat with 99,533 votes over his nearest rival from BJP Manju.
However, Phogat won from Julana on Congress ticket
Exuding confidence in the victory of the Congress party, Phogat said, "These are early trends wait for some time, earlier I was also trailing but now I won. Nothing is clear now. Congress party will form its government."

Vinesh Phogat wins from Julana constituency by 6000 votes after 15 rounds of counting

Congress candidate Aftab Ahmed won the Nuh assembly seat in Haryana on Tuesday, defeating his nearest rival and Indian National Lok Dal nominee Tahir Hussain. according to the Election Commission.
Ahmed, who was the outgoing MLA from Nuh, defeated Hussain by a margin of 46,963 votes.
The BJP's Sanjay Singh was at the third spot.

The ruling BJP and the Congress were engaged in a seesaw battle in Haryana on Tuesday as the Election Commission website showed the saffron party was just ahead of the Congress after about two hours of counting of votes on Tuesday.
According to EC trends available at 10 am, the BJP was leading in 43 seats and the Congress on 34, the first time the ruling party overtook the Congress after counting began at 8 am.
The counting of votes for all the 90 assembly seats began at 93 centres in 22 districts of the state amid tight security.

Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) leader Babita Phogat spoke to ANI on sister Vinesh Phogat contesting on Congress ticket in the 2024 Haryana elections. While Babita is not contesting the election this time, Vinesh is fielding from Julana Assembly Constituency.
"For the welfare and development of the state, I would urge everyone to come out and vote in large numbers. This is your biggest responsibility as a citizen of this country... It is everyone's personal decision which party they want to be affiliated with. It's her choice and I respect her (Vinesh Phogat's) decision..." Babita said while speaking to ANI.

Based on early trends from postal ballot counting, the party is up by 21 seats compared to the last election, surpassing the majority mark. In the 2019 Haryana Election, Congress secured 31 seats.
Exit polls predict a clean sweep for Congress in Haryana, with some suggesting that the party may win more than 50 of the 90 seats in the assembly. The TV-Today C-Voter projection indicated that the Congress may secure 50-58 seats in the state, while the BJP is expected to win 20-28 seats. The majority of seats a party needs to win to form a government in Haryana is 46.
