PM Modi in Lok Sabha Highlights: The Lok Sabha was adjourned sine die on Tuesday, a day before the scheduled last day on July 3. The session which began on June 24 saw oath-taking of new MPs, re-election of Om Birla as Speaker and President's speech. The debate on Motion of Thanks saw ruling and opposition MP's indulging in heating exchanges on the floor of the House.

Before the final adjournment, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday launched a scathing attack on Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi by saying that the Congress leader's comments on Hinduism on the floor of the house on Monday was part of a larger conspiracy to defame Hindus. PM Modi said that the Rahul's remark on Hinduism should not be ignored and that the country will not forget these remarks for centuries. The Prime Minister was speaking in the Lok Sabha during the Motion of Thanks to the President's Address on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister accused Rahul Gandhi of lying on the floor of the house on MSP and Agniveer. The Prime Minister began his address amid chants of ‘Modi, Modi’ from the ruling MPs and protests from the Opposition MPs. The PM's address to Lok Sabha comes a day after Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's maiden speech as Leader of Opposition in the lower House of Parliament launching a scathing attack on Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Throughout the PM's address, the Opposition MPs continued to protest with many of them storming into the Well demanding discussion on the situation in Manipur. PM Modi listed his government’s moves and schemes. He said that  Opposition couldn’t bring in the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir and that the Article 370 had taken away people’s rights in the erstwhile state.

Earlier in the day, the PM addressed the meeting of members of the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) on Tuesday. This was PM Modi's first address to ruling party MPs in the Parliament session, after he won the record third term as Prime Minister.

Some portions of Rahul Gandhi's speech on Monday were expunged from the records of Lok Sabha. Gandhi reacted to the move and said that reality cannot be expunged.

Rahul Gandhi's remarks had triggered an uproar in the Lok Sabha with top BJP leaders, including PM Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah accusing the Raebareli MP of insulting Hindus.

The ongoing Lok Sabha session, the first of the newly-elected house, that started on June 24, is expected to run till July 3.

Speaking in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav said he won't trust EVMs even if his party won all 80 seats from Uttar Pradesh. Yadav also attacked the BJP-led NDA government over Agnipath, NEET-UG row and other paper leak issues.

The spar between the ruling and opposition leaders assumes significance as the BJP has lost the majority in the Lok Sabha for the first time in ten years and thus relies on its allies for being in power.

While the BJP won 240 seats, its allies won 53, leading to the NDA comfortably crossing the halfway mark in the 543-member House. With over 230 members, the opposition has also a better strength in the house compared to last two terms of PM Modi-led government.
