Ratan Tata Death News Highlights: Veteran industrialist, Ratan Tata, who was regarded as an idol for many because of his visionary leadership and philanthropic initiatives, was laid to rest in Mumbai on Thursday. 

The Tata Group’s chairman emeritus, Ratan Tata, breathed his last at south Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital. Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran confirmed the death of the 86-year-old business tycoon.

On Thursday, Ratan Tata's mortal remains were kept at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA), for people to pay their last respects to the veteran industrialist. In evening, Ratan Tata's mortal remains were cremated at Worli Crematorium after the last rites were performed with full state honour.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani his wife Nita Ambani and several other eminent personalities arrived at National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) Mumbai, to pay last respects to the iconic industrialists who will be remembered for generations.

Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde tabled the proposal of conferring Bharat Ratna Award on Ratan Tata posthumously. The approved proposal will be submitted to the Central government for its approval.

The mortal remains of the iconic industrialist, escorted by Ratan Tata's closest aide, Shantanu Naidu, have been taken to National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) Mumbai, at 10:30 am for the public to pay their last respects. NCP-SCP Chief Sharad Pawar, KM Birla paid their last respects to the business tycoon. Home Minister Amit Shah is also expected to attend the last rites on behalf of Modi government.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that he was extremely pained by the passing of Ratan Tata and termed him a visionary business leader, a compassionate soul and an extraordinary human being.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde said industrialist Ratan Tata will be accorded a state funeral. 

Talking to reporters, Shinde said Tata's relatives have informed that his mortal remains will be kept at the National Centre for Performing Arts (NCPA) in south Mumbai from 10 am to 4 pm on Thursday for people to pay respect.

Mahindra Group Chairman Anand Mahindra said that he was unable to accept the absence of Ratan Tata. “India’s economy stands on the cusp of a historic leap forward. And Ratan’s life and work have had much to do with our being in this position."
