Death toll in Hathras Stampede rises to 116; people died due to suffocation after the stampede broke out during the conclusion of a ‘Satsang’ at Phulrai village near Mandi of Sikandrarau in Hathras. A Satsang is a Hindu religious congregation that usually takes place overnight.
"Twenty-seven bodies have arrived in Etah hospital. Among those killed are 23 women, three children and a man," Senior Superintendent of Police, Etah, Rajesh Kumar Singh said.
The stampede apparently occurred due to overcrowding, Sikandara Rao police station SHO Ashish Kumar said.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed condolences to the families of those killed in the stampede. He instructed officials to reach the accident site and carry out relief measures.

UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: ASP Amrit Jain said, “We received 38 bodies from Hathras district where the incident took place yesterday. We have successfully identified 36 of them. After completing the legal formalities - panchayat nama and post-mortem, we have sent those 36 bodies to their destinations along with their families. 2 bodies remain unidentified," reported ANI. He added, "For their identification, we have released their photographs to all the nearby districts and the entire state through the control room."

Asphyxia due to compression was the leading cause of death among the victims of the Hathras stampede who were brought to the district hospital in neighbouring Etah on Tuesday, a senior doctor said.
The hospital performed four times the usual number of autopsies in a day in the aftermath of the stampede, he said.
As many as 27 bodies were brought to the mortuary of the district hospital here after the stampede at Hathras' Phulrai village on Tuesday. The overall toll stood at 121 and bodies were taken to various hospitals in nearby areas including Etah and Aligarh. (PTI)
The Uttar Pradesh Police on Wednesday lodged an FIR against the organisers of the religious congregation in Hathras where 121 people died in a stampede, accusing them of hiding evidence and flouting conditions with 2.5 lakh people gathering for the event in which only 80,000 were permitted.
However, the congregation or 'satsang' conductor Jagat Guru Saakar Vishwahari's name does not figure in the list of accused in the FIR though his name is in the complaint.
The FIR alleged that the organisers hid the actual number of devotees coming to the 'satsang' while seeking permission, did not cooperate in traffic management and hid evidence after the stampede, which broke out after people gathered there stopped to collect mud from the way the baba's vehicle was passing. The incident occurred near Phulrai village in the Sikandar Rau area when a crowd of thousands gathered for a 'satsang' by religious preacher Bhole Baba.
UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: The FIR alleges that, contrary to the organizers' claims of an expected turnout of 80,000, around 2.5 lakh followers gathered at the satsang on Tuesday. Permission had been granted for a gathering of 80,000 followers during the satsang at Phoolrai village. This large assembly caused a traffic jam on the National Highway in Hathras district where the satsang was held.
Additionally, the FIR states that around 2:00 pmon Tuesday, the convoy of vehicles belonging to Bhole Baba left the satsang venue. The FIR accuses the organizers of concealing the actual number of attendees, which was in the lakhs, as had been observed at past events.

It was reported that apart from seven children and one man, all the victims were women. These individuals were among the thousands who had gathered near Phulrai village in the Sikandrarau area to partake in 'satsang' held by the religious leader Bhole Baba. When Bhole Baba was exiting the venue, the stampede occurred. The time of the day was around 3:30 pm.

UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his address in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday condoled the unfortunate deaths of victims in a stampede accident in Hathras of Uttar Pradesh.
He wished a speedy recovery for the injured in the accident and informed the house that the state government was actively carrying out search and rescue operations. He noted that the senior officials of the Central Government were in constant touch with the State Government to ensure all necessary help for the victims.

After the event was over the chief spokesperson (Baba Ji) was leaving and people rushed to seek his blessings. Following this, a few people fell off and other people fell over them, reported ANI.
He added, “Many started running and a stampede occurred as the path was very narrow. 116 people have died and 22 have been hospitalised. 20 bodies have been unidentified. It is difficult to show bodies and it is difficult for the person also who gets to see the bodies."
UP Hathras Stampede LIVE Updates: Father of deceased 16-year-old daughter, Vinod who lost his wife and mother in the Hathras stampede incident said, “I did not even know that all three had gone to the Satsang because I had gone somewhere outside,"reported ANI.
He added, "Someone told me that there was a stampede in the satsang after which I reached the spot and found out that my 16-year-old daughter, mother and wife had died. I could not even find my mother's body."
He noted, “I am left with nothing... everything is gone."
Bodies lay scattered at a medical centre in Uttar Pradesh's Hathras district on Tuesday as people milled around them, wiping away tears and consoling one another.
The heartbreaking scenes unfolded outside the district's Sikandara Rao Trauma Centre, where victims, dead or unconscious, of the stampede that occurred at a 'satsang' in Phulrai village, were brought in ambulances, trucks and cars.
A woman sat crying among five or six bodies in a truck, urging people to help her get the body of her daughter out of the vehicle. A video clip showed a man and a woman lying lifeless in a different vehicle.
Many of the injured were seen lying near the entrance of the local government hospital surrounded by anxious relatives. Locals blamed the administration's negligence for the tragedy.

“UP CM Yogi Adityanath has sent three ministers to the incident site and I am one of them... More than the permitted number of people were present at the event being organised. The stampede occurred when people, especially women rushed to seek blessings of the saint who presided over the event. An investigation committee has been formed by the CM which will submit the report after due investigation... It is a matter of investigation what went wrong... The accused will be punished and we will ensure no such incident happens again... CM Yogi Adityanath will come here tomorrow and take cognisance of the situation," said BJP MLA Asim Arun.
Expressing his grief on the Hathras stampede incident, AIMIM MP Asaduddin Owaisi said that an investigation should be carried out to find the cause of the incident and proper treatment should be given to the injured.
Asaduddin Owaisi said, "The incident that took place in Hathras is sad. Proper investigation should be done on how the incident took place and how the State Govt could not manage the crowd efficiently. I hope that proper treatment will be given to the injured."
After the death toll in a stampede on Tuesday at a religious event in Hathras district rose to 116, Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi said that the government should help the people sensitively.
"The government should help people sensitively. I offer my condolences to all the families who have lost their loved ones," Gandhi said.
