The Regional Meteorological Centre, Mumbai has issued a yellow alert for the financial capital and Palghar today. In addition to this, an orange alert has been issued in Thane, Sindhudurg, Pune and Kolhapur. Meanwhile, Satara, Raigad and Ratnagiri are on red alert today.
The RMC said, “Heavy to very heavy rainfall in city and suburbs. Possibility of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places. Occassional gusty winds reaching 60-70 kmph very likely."
The IMD issued a nowcast warning at 7:00 am suggesting “moderate spells of rain" at isolated places during the next 3-4 hours. Palghar, Raigad, Thane, Ratnagiri, Mumbai districts and ghat areas of Pune and Satara will feel the impact of the predicted downpours
In an update shared by BMC, it said that Tansa Lake, one of the lake supplying water to the Mumbai, started overflowing at around 4:16 PM on Thursday. Three gates of the Tansa Dam were opened to release water at a rate of 3,315 cusecs. The full storage capacity of Tansa Lake is 14,508 crore liters.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: Officials said that Pimpri Chinchwad had faced heavy rainfall since Wednesday night, leading to extensive flooding in the region.
“It is raining heavily since last night. Police personnel have been deployed in low-lying and waterlogging prone areas. The police and the Municipal Corporation are shifting people from low-lying areas to safer places. All officers are on the field monitoring the situation and providing all information to the people. We are also providing information on our social media platforms about traffic jams, routes being diverted etc," Police Commissioner Vinoy Kumar Choubey told PTI.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: Chief Minister Eknath Shinde assured on Thursday afternoon that the flood-like situation in Pune and nearby areas was ‘under control’.
"I am continuously monitoring the entire situation since morning. I had informed the Collector, two inspectors and the NDRF to provide all facilities to the people stuck in flood-affected areas and provide them food packets and drinking water. I had also asked the Army to airlift people if needed. Now, the situation is under control. Rescue operations are underway," he told PTI.
Mumbai rains LIVE: Water has been accumulating along the Central Railway tracks at several points — including the stretch between Kurla and Ghatkopar stations — since Thursday morning. However all suburban trains continue to run as the water is still below the danger mark.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: An NDRF team has now reached the site of the landslide in Lavasa. Officials from the National Disaster Response Force however said that the road route to the landslide site has developed some cracks. According to the police, three people are feared trapped in a bungalow in Lavasa area after a mudslide.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: The India Meteorological Department has issued a Red Alert warning for Mumbai till tomorrow morning 8:30 am. The weather department has predicted 'heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places" in Mumbai, Thane, Palghar and Raigad districts.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: About 400 people were evacuated on Thursday amid flooding along Sinhagad Road and other areas. Water entered several housing societies and houses in low-lying areas with cars and two-wheelers standing in water. Two columns of the Army were deployed in Sinhagad Road area. Teams of the NDRF, fire brigade as well as the district and city disaster management cells were pressed into service to carry out relief operations.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: 70 people were rescued by officials after being stranded amid the flood waters in the Nimbjanagar area of Pune. Visuals showed members of the Pune Fire Brigade conducting rescue and relief work in the city after it was submerged in above-knee-level rainwater.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: Maharashtra deputy Chief Ministers Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis took stock of the flooding situation on Thursday. Both leaders have issued a public appeal, urging people to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and remain calm.
The NCP leader Pawar visited the state disaster management department at Mantralaya and instructed officials in the affected cities to mobilise all necessary resources and relocate people to safer areas.
Meanwhile Fadnavis was briefed about the deployment of two teams of the National Disaster Response Force in Pune and use of 11 boats to relocate residents of Ekata Nagar there to safer locations.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has declared a holiday for all schools and colleges after the India Meteorological Department issued a Red Alert warning for Mumbai.
“BMC appeals to schools and the teachers to inform the representatives of guardians; and take necessary precautions and ensure proper coordination at the school level," the civic body added.
Mumbai Rains LIVE: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has withdrawn water cuts across the city amid heavy rainfall. An update shared on the BMC social media feed said that the 10% water cut in Mumbai's water supply will be withdrawn from Monday (July 29) in light of the overall situation. The civic body is also withdrawing a 10% water cut to Thane City, Bhiwandi, and Outside City Division Grampanchyats — where water is supplied by BMC — from Monday.

Mumbai rains LIVE: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said 'orange' alert has been sounded for the next 3 hours in Mumbai. “I have spoken to Mumbai Municipal Commissioner to take all measures," ANI quoted Maharashtra CM as saying.
He noted that 222 water pumps have been deployed to drain excess water in different areas. The CM added, "There is water accumulated on railway tracks in Kurla and Ghatkopar areas. Work is being done to open Andheri subway which is closed right now. I appeal to Mumbaikars not to venture outside, if not required. I have also spoken to Raigad Collector and directed him to remain alert."
Mumbai rains LIVE: Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said, “ There is water on the roads and in houses of people in Pune. There is a lot of rain at Khadakwasla Dam and in the catchment area. The District Collector, Municipal Commissioner, and Police Commissioner are on alert. Teams of NDRF teams & SDRF are deployed there," reported ANI.
He added, “I have spoken to the Army to keep their teams on alert. Preparations have also been made for airlifting operations if needed."
The CM made an appeal to the residents of the state to cooperate with the administration to move to safer places.

In another update, RMC predicted the possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in the districts of Madhya Maharashtra at isolated places in the Ghat region.

Mumbai rains LIVE: Pune District Collector Suhas Diwase on Thurday said, “It is raining heavily in the hilly areas of Pune in the Western Ghats...We have declared a holiday for all schools, colleges and we are monitoring the situation," reported ANI.
He added, “We have appealed to industrial establishments also to give their employees a day off today as in the next three hours, we are expecting heavy to moderately heavy rains in the Pune region." He further noted that one person lost his life while another was injured following a rockslide in Adharwadi village in Pune rural.
In addition to this, three people are trapped in a landslide in Dasve village in Lavasa city. Suhas Diwase further stated, "NDRF has been sent for search and rescue. Three people died due to electrocution in Pune city. CM and DCM Ajit Pawar are monitoring the situation. I would like to appeal to citizens not to step out unnecessarily."
