Mumbai Rains Highlights: Mumbai received intermittent spells of rainfall, parts of the city were waterlogged but local trains operated normally. A high tide of 3.66 metres is expected at 11.18 pm.

Mumbai Rains Highlights: Heavy rain pounded Mumbai on Sunday, which is experiencing monsoon showers. The continuous downpour led to significant waterlogging in multiple areas and disrupted public transport, paralyzing the city. With the rain persisting for the fifth straight day, the weather department issued ‘yellow’ warnings for Mumbai and its surrounding regions on Monday.

Mumbai Rains LIVE: Rain alerts

The weather department has issued orange and yellow alerts for the region, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning at a few places in Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur and Amravati for the next two to five days.

According to the regional meteorological centre, Nagpur recorded 43 mm rainfall in 24 hours ending 8.30 am on Monday.

The department has forecast thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rainfall at isolated places over Wardha, Nagpur, Gadchiroli, Bhandara, Gondia and Chandrapur districts.

The Regional Meteorological Centre has issued an orange alert for Bhandara and Gondia for Monday and a yellow alert for Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Amravati, Akola, Yavatmal and Buldhana.

More than 700 houses were damaged, and several roads were inundated as rains pummelled Maharashtra's Vidarbha over the weekend, and intermittent spells continued in the region on Monday.

In Chandrapur, seven gates of the Irai Dam were opened by one metre as incessant showers lashed the district in the morning.

According to officials, 740 houses were damaged, particularly in villages in Chandrapur, in the last 48 hours.

Flight operations at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport were suspended twice due to inclement weather and low visibility. Runway operations were suspended at 12.12 pm for eight minutes and from 1 pm to 1.15 pm.

According to a PTI report quoting sources, at least 15 flights were diverted to the nearby airports — mainly Ahmedabad — till 4 pm. This included flights operated by IndiGo, Air India, Vistara and Akasa Air.

Several key routes were affected by waterlogging — including the closure of Andheri Subway in DN Nagar, Khar subway and the Maharashtra Nagar subway in Trombay. Several vehicles were stranded on inundated roads in Wadala and Matunga in central Mumbai,

Mumbai Rains LIVE Updates: CM Shinde asks officials to be on high alert

Chief Minister Eknath Shinde asked officials to be on high alert on Sunday as heavy rain lashed several parts of Maharashtra. 

“The State Disaster Response Force, the local administration, civic bodies, police etc should take regular updates on the weather from the India Meteorological Department and plan accordingly to provide relief to citizens. Accident-prone areas should be surveyed, flood control methods should be adopted and traffic must be diverted as required. IMD updates should be shared with citizens regularly. Food, medicine and relief material stocks should be maintained in appropriate quantity, temporary shelter camps must be made for people and animals," he told officials.
