PremiumArvind Kejriwal Hearing Live Updates: The Supreme Court denied interim bail to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the CBI's corruption case related to the alleged excise policy scam.
Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuyan issued a notice to the CBI in response to Kejriwal's challenge against the Delhi High Court's decision to uphold his arrest.
“We are not granting any interim bail. We will issue notice," the bench told senior advocate Abhishek Singhvi, who was appearing for Kejriwal, PTI reported.
The matter is scheduled for a hearing on August 23.
The Delhi High Court had on August 5 upheld the arrest of the chief minister as legal, and said there was no malice in the acts of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) which demonstrated how the AAP supremo could influence witnesses who could muster the courage to depose only after his arrest.
The high court had asked him to move the trial court for regular bail in the CBI case.
The high court had noted that the loop of evidence against the chief minister was closed after collection of relevant evidence following his arrest by the CBI and it cannot be said that it was without any justifiable reason or illegal.
It had said Kejriwal is not an ordinary citizen but a distinguished recipient of the Magsaysay Award and the convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party.
"The control and the influence which he has on the witnesses is prima facie borne out from the fact that these witnesses could muster the courage to be a witness only after the arrest of the petitioner, as highlighted by the special prosecutor.
"Also, it establishes that the loop of evidence against the petitioner got closed after the collection of relevant evidence after his arrest. No malice whatsoever can be gathered from the acts of the respondent (CBI)," the high court had said.

"We welcome the decision to have Delhi's Home Minister, Kailash Gahlot, hoist the national flag on August 15. This move honours the principle of democracy by choosing an elected representative over an appointed one, reinforcing the importance of the people's mandate in our governance," AAP said in a statement.

1. The top court will hear Kejriwal's plea against the Delhi High Court order upholding his arrest by the CBI in a corruption case stemming from the alleged excise policy scam.
2. The top court will also hear a separate plea of Kejriwal seeking bail in the case.
Kejriwal was granted interim bail in a money laundering case by the Supreme Court on July 12. Earlier, he was granted regular bail by the trial court on June 20. However, he was not released from jail since he is presently in custody with the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the same Delhi Liquor Policy matter.
Lt. Governor VK Saxena on Tuesday nominated Delhi Home Minister Kailash Gahlot to hoist the national flag at the state-level Independence Day event, bypassing the AAP government's request to allow Education Minister Atishi to do so.
