India vs SL, 3rd ODI, Highlights: Sri Lanka on 7 August created history as they defeated India in a bilateral ODI series after a gap of 27 years, since 1997.

Charith Asalanka-led Sri Lanka defeated Rohit Sharma-led India by a whopping 110 runs in the third ODI match at Colombo on Wednesday. With this, they won he series by 2-0, as the first match resulted in a tie.

Chasing a target of 249 runs, India were ALL OUT in 138 runs in just 26.1 overs. For India, skipper Rohit Sharma scored 35 off 20 balls and Washington Sundar hit 30 off 25 deliveries. Apart from this no other batter could cross 20 runs, including Virat Kohli.

For Sri Lanka, Dunith Wellalage picked up 5 wickets, while Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay took 2 wickets each. Asitha Fernando clinched one wicket.

Sri Lanka's Dunith Wellalage has become the first spinner to take five wickets in an ODI against India on more than one occasion, as he picked a fifer (5/40 in Colombo) on 2023 and 5/27 in Colombo) on 2024.

Asitha Fernando was awarded the player of the match, while Dunith Wellalage won the player of the series.

Looking at few stats, India lost 27 wickets to spin is the most by any team in a bilateral ODI series.

Also, Sri Lanka has their 6 players injured and could not play in the series.

Playing against India in the third ODI at Colombo, Sri Lanka posted a total of 248 off 7 wickets in 50 overs on 7 August. India need 249 runs to win the match.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka scored 248 runs, but lost seven wickets. Sri Lanka's Avishka Fernando scored 96 off 102 balls, while Kusal Mendis (59) and Pathum Nissanka (45) contributed with their bat.

Rohit Sharma's men are looking to avoid losing the series when they take on hosts Sri Lanka in the penultimate match of the 3-match ODI series at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo today.

The Men in Blue had lost the lead in the first ODI when the match was tied at 1-1 with 14 balls to spare. The hosts outplayed Team India in the second encounter, defeating them by 32 runs. Notably, this is the first time since 1997 that India have failed to win an ODI series in Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, with the surface in Colombo favouring the slower bowlers. Riyan Parag makes his international debut, primarily as a bowler. Parag can provide some much-needed support with the ball.

Questions are also being asked about Virat Kohli, who has scored just 38 runs in the two matches so far.
