IPL 2025 Purple Cap
Purple Cap 2025:GT's Prasidh Krishna leads the purple cap race with 20 wickets. CSK's Noor Ahmad joins Prasidh at the table after taking 4 wickets against Kolkata Knight Riders. Two overseas players - RCB's Josh Hazlewood (18) and MI's Trent Boult (18) - and KKR's Varun Chakaravarthy (17 wickets) complete the top five.
A Purple Cap is presented to mark the most wicket-takers in an Indian Premier League (IPL) season. The Purple Cap winner keeps on changing during the course of the tournament as and when which cricketer is topping the charts at the particular point of time.
Former Pakistan pacer Sohail Tanvir, who played for Rajasthan Royals, was the first recipient of the Purple Cap in the inaugural season in 2008 for his 22 wickets in 11 games.
West Indies Dwayne Bravo and Bhuvneshwar Kumar hold the record for winning the Purple Cap twice in history. Overall, there have been 13 different Purple Cap winners in 17 seasons so far.
It is also to be noted that that a 30-wicket mark was breached thrice in the history of IPL with Dwayne Bravo (2013), Harshal Patel (2021) and Kagiso Rabada (2020).
