The ace Indian grappler suffered a major setback on Wednesday after she was disqualified from wrestling at the Paris Olympics 2024 for being overweight.

Vinesh Phogat was all set to compete for Gold at the Paris Olympics 2024 in the Women's Wrestling 50 kg category. She had already secured a Silver for India. In a shocking reversal of fortunes, Phogat will now return from Paris without any medal after being found overweight ahead of her women's 50kg final.
“She was found overweight by 100gm this morning. The rules do not allow this and she has been disqualified," an Indian coach told PTI.
"It is with regret that the Indian contingent shares news of Vinesh Phogat's disqualification from the women's Wrestling 50kg class. Despite the best efforts by the team through the night, she weighed in a few grams over 50kg this morning," the IOA stated.

Minutes after the confirmation of Vinesh Phogat's exit from the Paris Olympics 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi consoled the ace wrestler.

Vinesh Phogat Disqualified Live: Dr Dinshaw Paudiwala — the Chief Medical Officer of the Indian Contingent — said that the team had tried every avenue possible to redude the wrestler's weight.
“Vinesh's nutritionist felt that the usual amount she takes is 1.5kg totally over the day gives enough energy for the bouts. Sometimes there is a factor of rebound weight gain following a competition. Vinesh had three bouts, to prevent any dehydration, some amount of water had to be given. We found her post-participation weight had increased more than normal and the coach initiated the normal process of weight cut that he has always used with Vinesh. Overnight we went ahead with the weight cut procedure. Despite all efforts, we found Vinesh's weight was 100 grams over her 50kg weight category. We tried all possible drastic measures including cutting her hair and shortening her clothes. Despite this, we could not make that 50kg weight category. After disqualification, as a measure of precaution, Vinesh was administered intravenous fluids to prevent dehydration," he said.
