Reddit fixes widespread outage affecting thousands in the US
Reddit has resolved a software issue that was blocking access for tens of thousands of American users on Wednesday.
Reddit claimed to have fixed a software flaw that was preventing tens of thousands of Americans from using the social media site on Wednesday, Reuters reported.
According to Downdetector, which monitors outages by compiling status information from multiple sources, including user reports, the outage started at approximately 3 p.m. ET. Approximately 49,000 reports of platform issues were made at its height.
Earlier, just before 4 p.m., Reddit posted an update on social media: “Yes. We’re working on it."
Social media ban for children younger than 16 introduced in Australia's Parliament
On Thursday, Australia's communications minister put a world-first proposal into Parliament to prohibit children under sixteen from using social media, citing online safety as one of the most difficult issues facing parents.
According to Michelle Rowland, the TikTok, Facebook, Snapchat, Reddit, X, and Instagram platforms could be fined up to 50 million Australian dollars (USD 33 million) for their systematic inability to stop young children from creating accounts.
Rowland informed Parliament, "This bill aims to establish a new normative value in society that using social media is not the defining characteristic of growing up in Australia."
Reddit's strong revenue forecast boosted by AI deals

Reuters reported that revenue in the September quarter rose 68% to $348.4 million, beating analysts’ estimate of $312.8 million.
Reddit’s daily active unique visitors increased 47% to 97.2 million in Q3, while its global average revenue per user (ARPU) increased 14% to $3.58.
According to data compiled by LSEG, the company expects its revenue to be between $385 million and $400 million in the fourth quarter, compared with analysts’ average estimate of $357.9 million.
CEO Steve Huffman said on a post-earnings call that in 2025, the company will modernize its search products with an improved results page, autocomplete features, and integration of large language models to improve search results.
