WHAT INDIA SPENDS ON: LATEST CONSUMPTION SURVEY REPORT
How does India consume? What are we spending our money on? How much are we spending, and on what? Every five years, the government tries to look for answers to these questions by conducting a survey. The Household Consumption Expenditure Survey (HCES) conducted by the National Sample Survey Office (NSSO), sheds light on the country’s expenditure patterns. Consumption is a key driver of India’s economy, and the survey helps the government gain insight into the spending habits of the population, further helping it make policies. The latest survey comes after 10 years as the previous report from the NSSO was held back by the government over “data quality issues”.
