WORKPLACE CULTURE

The onset of the pandemic brought about the most significant change in the workplace since the first office was constructed. Working from home — even lounging from your bed — became the norm. Companies saved a lot of money on office rent and related expenses, but started to notice a huge drop in productivity. As the pandemic receded, a growing number of firms asked their staff to return to their physical offices.  Mint's coverage of the workplace culture doesn't just extend to that: offices aren't just 9-to-5, air conditioned spaces. For our gig workers, the office can be the local tea stall, trying to get some reprieve from the relentless summer heat. It can be the perils of our young doctors, who brave multi-day shifts without basic facilities.  Hiring, of course, is also essential to the workplace. As global recessionary reverberations make their presence felt in India, corporates have to stall, and sometimes go back on promised jobs to freshers. India's fledgling sustainability sector is growing by leaps and bounds, but with few executives experienced enough to be at the helm. Finding talent was never easy, long notice periods have also mandated that it isn't easy to leave the job either.  Read about this and much more in Mint's coverage of modern workplace culture.
