India, boasting the world's third-largest auto market, also grapples with significant incidents of vehicle thefts.

As per a report from insurance company Acko, Delhi-NCR witnessed a vehicle theft every 14 minutes in 2023.

Here are the cities posing the highest risk for car owners:

In the Delhi-NCR region, an average of 105 car theft cases were reported last year, with the majority occurring on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays.

Chennai experienced a significant surge in vehicle theft last year, making it the second most unsafe city in the country in this regard, with a spike of 10.5%.

Bengaluru was ranked by Acko as the third most unsafe city in the country for vehicle theft, with a notable increase of 10.2% in such incidents last year.

Hyderabad secured the fourth position in Acko's ranking of cities susceptible to vehicle thefts.

Among cities susceptible to vehicle thefts, Mumbai holds the fifth position. The police successfully resolved 55% of theft cases in 2022 and 2023, tracing 4,259 stolen vehicles.

Kolkata emerges as the safest city among the six metropolitan areas in terms of car theft incidents.
