Pune reports its first two Zika virus cases of the year: a 46-year-old doctor and his 15-year-old daughter.

The doctor experienced fever and rash, while his daughter showed mild symptoms, including fever. Both were confirmed with Zika virus infection by the National Institute of Virology.

Mosquito Bites

The infected Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus mosquitoes transmit the virus by biting an infected person and then biting another individual.

Pregnant Person to Fetus

A pregnant person with a Zika infection can pass the virus to the fetus through the placenta.

Sexual Contact

Zika virus can be transmitted through sexual contact via body fluids like semen for weeks to months after infection, even if the infected person shows no symptoms.

Blood Transfusion

There have been reported cases of Zika transmission through blood transfusions in some parts of the world.
