The Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) owns Amul, one of the most popular dairy brands in India.

According to the agency report, the milk prices will witness a 2 per litre surge, which will mark a 3 to 4 per cent increase in the maximum retail price (MRP) of the product.

The report also highlighted that the hike is much lower than the average food inflation in the nation.

According to an earlier Mint report, India's food inflation for the month of March 2025 witnessed a 2.69 per cent year-on-year rise, down from the February 2025 levels of 3.75 per cent. In March 2024, the food inflation in India was at 8.52 per cent.

According to the price hike data, the 500 millilitres pouch of Amul Gold milk will now be available for 34, while the ‘Shakti’ variant of the milk was at 31, for the 500 ml packet in Gujarat, as per the press release.

Price cut in January

Earlier on January 24, 2025, media reports highlighted that the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) has reduced the Amul milk prices by 1 per litre across India.

“We have reduced the prices of one-litre packs by 1 per litre across India,” Jayen Mehta, the managing director of GCMMF, told the news agency PTI.

After this deduction in January 2025, the rate of Amul Gold milk in Delhi dropped to 67 from 68 per litre, while the price of Amul Taaza cost 55 from 56 per litre.

GCMMF's turnover increased 8 per cent to 59,445 crore in the financial year ended 2023-24.

The organisation is the world's largest farmer-owned dairy cooperative, having 36 lakh farmers across 18,600 villages of Gujarat, and its 18 member unions procure 300 lakh litres of milk per day.
