United States President Donald Trump debuted on the Hurun Global Rich List 2025 in the Top 500, according to the official research report released on March 27. The richest US President in history saw his wealth triple to $7.2 billion over the past year, the Hurun report added.
According to the Hurun research report released on March 27, Donald Trump is the richest US president in history. He broke into the Hurun Top 500, with his wealth almost tripling to $7.2 billion, thanks to his 53 per cent share in his social media company Truth Social.
It added that Donald Trump's following and influence on the platform have almost tripled his wealth to $7.2 billion. And he is not alone. The report noted that 78-year-old Donald Trump's win benefitted him and his other close billionaire allies — Elon Musk and Peter Thiel.
“Donald Trump’s election win gave US-based billionaires a significant post-election bonus. Close allies Elon Musk and tech investor Peter Thiel saw their wealth surge," the report noted. According to the data, Elon Musk saw his wealth jump 82 per cent to $420 billion, and Peter Thiel's net worth rose 67 per cent to $14 billion. The report attributed Tesla's stock price rise to the ‘Trump effect’.
"Since our cut-off of 15 January 2025, 53-year-old Elon Musk has lost $100 billion after Tesla saw its market cap plunge by $700 billion, as investors took fright from increased competition from Chinese EV makers and a consumer backlash over Musk’s politics," the report noted.
Elon Musk has held the top spot for five years now, becoming the first person ever to surpass the $400 billion mark. Despite the Tesla share slump, he remains comfortably the wealthiest person in the world.
Meanwhile, the report also noted that the US reclaimed its position as the country with the most billionaires — 870 total, including 96 new faces — in 2025. In fact, in the top 10, only Bernard Arnault of France prevented a clean sweep for the US.
Among cities, New York was the world’s billionaire capital for the second year running, home to 129 billionaires. Shanghai became the Asian Billionaire Capital for the first time.
Overall, American billionaires contribute 42 per cent of the total wealth on the list, with 45 in the Hurun Top 100. The country's dominant sectors include Financial Services (170 billionaires), Media & Entertainment (111 billionaires), and Software & Services (106 billionaires).
The USA also has 130 women billionaires, second only to China (823 billionaires total, nine new additions), although mainly in inherited wealth. India ranked third, with 284 billionaires, including 13 new names on the list.
