NEET-UG 2024 Counselling delayed amid paper leak row; new date awaited

The counselling process for NEET UG 2024 has been postponed indefinitely. This decision follows the Supreme Court's rejection of a plea to delay the scheduled start of NEET UG counselling on July 6th.

Meanwhile, Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led central government over the NEET-UG row and said that the future of lakhs of youth is simply unsafe in their hands.

“The whole NEET-UG issue is getting worse by the day. The non-biological PM and his biological Education Minister are adding further proof to their demonstrated incompetence and insensitivity. The future of lakhs of our youth is simply unsafe in their hands,” the Congress leader posted on X.

The NEET-UG was conducted on May 5 by the NTA for admissions in MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other related courses. Due to irregularities, the examination is being challenged in the Supreme Court.

The apex court headed by CJI CY Chandrachud with Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will hear NEET-UG pleas on July 8. The testing agency conducted a re-examination on June 26.

The NTA conducted NEET-UG for 1,563 students awarded grace marks in the previous NEET-UG exam due to 'loss of time'. The Supreme Court had cancelled these grace marks after petitions were filed against it. Out of the 1,563 students, only 813 students appeared for the re-examination. The rest of the students opted for the original NEET-UG score excluding the grace marks.

NTA postponed the NEET-PG exam and UGC NET after the raging controversy over the NEET-UG exams. The Union government ordered a CBI probe and removed Subodh Kumar Singh, the chief of NTA, after allegations of irregularities in the theNEET-UG exams.
