PremiumElection Results 2024 Highlights: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)- Mahayuti secured a landslide victory in the Maharashtra Assembly Elections, with the BJP winning ‘historic’ 132 seats. The Mahayuti won 235 seats out of the total 288 seats – comfortably crossing the majority mark in the Maharashtra Assembly.
Meanwhile, the JMM-led INDIA bloc defeated the BJP-led NDA in Jharkhand by winning 56 seats in the 81-member Jharkhand Assembly. CM Hemant Soren's JMM won 34 seats, the Congress bagged 16 seats and the RJD won four seats. The Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) (Liberation) - CPI(ML)(L), which is also part of the INDIA bloc, won two seats.
Maharashtra voted for 288 seats in a single phase on November 20 . The 81 seats in Jharkhand voted in two phases – November 13 and 20. The Election Commission of Indi began the counting at 8 am on November 23 for both the states.
Mahayuti vs MVA in Maharashtra
The contest is bipolar in Maharashtra. In Maharashtra, the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti alliance contested to retain power, while the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) aims to wrest control from the ruling alliance in the state.
The Mahayuti comprises the BJP, Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, Ajit Pawar's NCP, JSS, RSVA, and RYSP. The MVA had the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT), and Sharad Pawar's NCP-SP and PWPI as constituents.
What happened in Maharashtra Assembly Election 2019?
In the 2019 assembly election, the BJP-Shiv Sena (undivided) won the majority. The alliance didn't last long, and the Shiv Sena pulled out, unleashing political turmoil in the state. The state saw three different chief ministers in the last five years: BJP’s Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena’s (UBT) Uddhav Thackeray, and Shiv Sena’s (SHS) Eknath Shinde.
In the 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, the BJP lost ground in Maharashtra. It won just 9 of the 28 seats it contested, compared to 23 of the 25 seats it contested in the 2019 general elections.
What did Maharashtra exit polls predict?
Most exit poll results gave the Mahayuti an edge in Maharashtra. The exit poll conducted by People's Pulse gave Mahayuti 175-195 seats and the MVA only 85-112 seats. However, the poll conducted by Electoral Edge predicted the MVA's victory with 150 seats, giving 121 seats to the BJP-led Mahayuti. Lokshahi Rudra has predicted a close fight between Mahayuti and the MVA.
Who's winning in Jharkhand (NDA vs INDIA)?
In Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren's JMM and its INDIA bloc allies won against the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). The INDIA bloc allies in Jharkhand include the JMM, the Congress, the CPI(ML)L and the RJD. The NDA includes the BJP, the AJSUP, the JD(U) and the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas).
What did Jharkhand exit polls predict?
The Matrize Exit poll predicted 42-47 seats for the NDA and 25-30 seats for the INDIA bloc. On the contrary, Axis My India predicted INDIA bloc's victory with 45 percent vote share in Jharkhand. The pollster predicted 37 percent vote share for the NDA. Dainik Bhaskar predicted a hung assembly in Jharkhand.
In the 2019 Assembly Elections, the JMM emerged as the largest party with 30 seats, while the BJP bagged 25 seats. The Congress won 16 seats. The JMM formed a government with the support of Congress and RJD.

Election Results 2024 LIVE: As the Congress leaders allege EVM hack conspiracy after the Mahayuti swept the 2024 general assembly elections in Maharashtra, Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar) or NCP SP MP Supriya Sule on Monday said that they would need evidence to prove the same.
She said that she would discuss the issue with Congress.
"I will speak with Congress. I am going to the INDIA alliance meeting now. We need some evidence for all this. We are working on it; we will do it," NCP SP Supriya Sule told ANI. Sule was in Delhi for the first winter session of Parliament.
Election Results 2024 LIVE: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut on Monday demanded a re-election in Maharashtra using ballot papers, claiming there were irregularities with the electronic voting machines (EVMs).
Talking to reporters, Raut alleged several complaints about EVMs malfunctioning and questioned the integrity of the recently held elections.
The BJP-led Mahayuti won 230 out of 288 seats in the assembly elections, while the opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi managed 46 seats, with Shiv Sena (UBT) winning just 20 out of 95 seats it contested.
Election Results 2024 LIVE: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday said no "formula" was being discussed for the chief minister's post and a decision on it will be taken together by the Mahayuti partners.
Speaking to reporters here, NCP leader Pawar also said the Mahayuti got such a huge mandate and the MVA did not even have enough numbers to stake claim for the leader of opposition's post in the state assembly.
Election Results 2024 LIVE: A Congress rebel who contested as an independent candidate against Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in the recently held state assembly elections has joined the Shiv Sena.
Manoj Shinde, who was suspended by the Congress after he refused to withdraw his nomination from the Kopri-Pachpakhadi seat, joined the Shiv Sena on Sunday.
Talking to PTI, Manoj Shinde expressed dissatisfaction with the Congress leadership, particularly the lack of attention given to the Thane and Konkan regions.

Assam Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday felicitated the three newly elected BJP MLAs in the recently concluded assembly by-polls in Guwahati.
Notably, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) led by BJP won all five seats where by-elections were held in Assam. BJP's Ghatowal secured the Behali Assembly seat, while the United People's Party Liberal's (UPPL) Nirmal Kumar Brahma, won Sidli. Asom Gana Parishad's Diptimayee Choudhury secured the Bongaigaon Assembly seat for the NDA.
Congress MP Chamala Kiran Kumar on Sunday alleged that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured electoral victories in Maharashtra and Haryana through manipulation and the misuse of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
"Congress always wants to tell the people of the country that whenever BJP wins, whether it is in Haryana or today in Maharashtra, BJP has a habit of coming to power by any means... Even in Haryana, we got results that we did not expect, even in Maharashtra...Our leaders are suspicious of election processes... It is difficult to understand what our democracy is doing with EVMs...," he said.
