A public holiday has been declared in Delhi and Haryana on Wednesday, February 5, in the wake of voting in the Delhi Elections 2025. Delhi will vote on February 5 to choose its next chief Minister. The voting will be held between 7 am and 6 pm on Wednesday. The Delhi Election results will be declared on February 8.

A Delhi government's notification shared y news agency ANI read, “The Lieutenant Governor of National Capital Territory of Delhi is pleased to declare Wednesday, the 5th February, 2025 to be a Public Holiday in all the Government Offices, Local/Autonomous Bodies, Public Sector Undertakings under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi, on account of General Election to the Legislative Assembly of Delhi.”

Earlier on Sunday, the Haryana government declared a paid holiday in all public offices, academic institutions, boards and corporations on February 5 for the assembly election in Delhi.

The holiday will allow employees of the state government who are registered voters of Delhi to exercise their franchise.

"This provision, under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881, and Section 135-B of the Representation of the People Act, 1951 (amended in 1996), applies to employees who are registered voters of NCT of Delhi, allowing them to cast their vote in the general election," according to an official statement.

Employees of factories, shops and private establishments in Haryana who are registered voters of Delhi are also entitled to paid leaves for the purpose, it further said.

Elections to the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held on February 5, and the votes counted on February 8.

Meanwhile, The Election Commission has issued a notification banning the conduct, publication or publicising of exit polls between 7.00 am to 6.30 pm on February 5 (Wednesday) when votes will be cast for the Delhi assembly and two bypolls in Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.
