The exit poll predictions by agencies are based on voter feedback collected after the polling.
As per Dainik Bhaskar's predictions, the Congress is predicted to win 44-54 seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly securing a clear majority. The BJP is predicted to get 19-29 seats as per this exit poll. The majority mark in Haryana is 46 seats.
Pollsters such as Axis My India, C-Voter, Nielsen and Chanakya will release their exit poll numbers, either independently or in collaboration with news channels, live-streamed the exit poll predictions for Haryana and J&K assembly poll from 6.30 pm, half an hour after the voting for 90 seats of Haryana was over.
The 90 seats of Jammu and Kashmir voted in three phases on September 18, 25 and October 1. The results of both elections will be declared on October 8.
In Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP is expected to win 20-25 seats while the National Conference-Congress alliance will bag 35-40 seats, according to Dainik Bhaskar exit poll. The PDP will win 4-7 seats while others will win 12-16 seats as per Dainik Bhaskar.
The India Today-C Voter has predicted 23-27 seats for the BJP in Jammu and Kashmir and 40-48 seats for the NC-Congress alliance. The PDP gets 6-12 seats and others 6-11 seats in J&K, according to India Today -C Voter exit poll.
The BJP will win 28-30 seats in J&K as per exit poll by local news channel, Gulistan. the NC will win 28-30 seats, the Congress 3-6 seats while the PDP will win 5-7 seats as per this exit poll. Others will get 8-16 seats.
Past Exit Polls
While the idea behind the exit polls is to reflect public sentiment well before the actual results are announced, their accuracy has faced scrutiny many times in the past.
For example, at least 12 exit polls predicted a landslide win for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) in Lok Sabha Election 2024. But the predictions were horribly wrong yet again. The BJP-led NDA finished with just 293 seats when the actual results came. In fact, unlike 2014 and 2019, the BJP failed to win a simple majority on its own.
In the last Jammu and Kashmir elections held in 2014, however, the exit poll predictions were close to the actual results. The exit polls had predicted that the PDP would be the single-largest party with 32-38 seats in the 87-member house, falling short of crossing the magic mark of 44 seats, followed by the BJP at 27-33. The National Conference (NC) was predicted to get 8-14 seats and the Congress at 4-10. The accuracy was close. Finally, the PDP won 28 seats, the BJP 25, the NC 15, and the Congress 12, not far off the mark.
In 2024 assembly polls in J&K, the NC and Congress are contesting elections in an alliance, while the BJP and the PDP are other big players in Jammu and Kashmir.
2019 Haryana Assembly Election Exit Poll
In the 2019 assembly polls in Haryana, exit poll results showed the BJP crossing the majority mark comfortably with most pollsters predicting more than 60 seats in the 90-member Haryana assembly for the saffron party. The exit polls gave about 18 seats to the Congress party.
As it turned out, exit polls proved inaccurate. In reality, BJP won 40 seats, six short of majority mark and the Congress won 31 seats.
The Congress-led INDIA bloc bagged 235 seats defying the exit polls.
BJP eyeing a hat-trick in Haryana
The ruling BJP is eyeing a hat-trick of electoral victories in the state, while the Congress party hopes to come back after being in opposition for a decade in Haryana.
Apart from the BJP and the Congress, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), the Jannayak Janata Party (JJP), and the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) also have stakes in today's election.
The exit poll results generate a lot of interest before the actual result day, their inaccuracy in the recent elections notwithstanding. What remains to be seen is how accurately the pollsters will predict the results of the Haryana and Jammu-Kashmir elections this time.

Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: Exuding confidence that Bharatiya Janata Party will be able to form the government in Jammu and Kashmir with the support of independent smaller parties, the BJP J-K Chief Ravinder Raina on Monday said, “BJP has held a discussion with its counting agents and leaders for votes counting day. When votes are counted on 8th October in J&K, I am confident that BJP will win," reported ANI.
He added, “BJP will win around 35 seats in J&K and will be able to form the government with the support of BJP-supported independent candidates and independent smaller parties. I am confident we will open our account in Kashmir as well."
Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: The Congress may get 50-58 seats in the state, whereas the BJP may win 20-28 seats, according to The TV-Today C voter projection. Meanwhile, the others may get 10-16 seats.

Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: Doda District Election Officer (DEO) Harvinder Singh on Sunday informed that all necessary arrangements are complete, reported ANI. "We have set up three counting halls for EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) and three for postal ballots. Additional Assistant Returning Officers (AROs) have been appointed, as directed by the Election Commission of India, specifically for postal ballots," ANI quoted Harvinder Singh as saying.

Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: According to the Axis My India prediction, a hung assembly will be formed in Jammu and Kashmir with the National Conference-Congress alliance slightly ahead and the BJP tailgating the opposition. Hannan Mollah said, "Sapne dekhne ka haq sabko hai. In the same way, the BJP is also dreaming that it will form the government in Haryana. Not giving farmers a fair price for their crops, not accepting their demands--these issues have caused distress among the farmers of Haryana, as we saw during the farmers' protest. An anti-BJP sentiment has developed among the farmers in Haryana," reported ANI.

Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: Digvijay Chautala, Jannayak Janta Party (JJP) General secretary, on Sunday said that Haryana CM Nayab Singh Saini was given a "dead snake" by the BJP. He alleged that Nayab Singh Saini could not control the damage done to the state, which might be the reason for BJP being voted out of power.

In my constituency, it increased by 3%. This means that the public's support for Congress has decreased"
Congress leader & former Haryana CM Bhupinder Hooda said, "I want to thank all the voters of Haryana for conducting a peaceful elections. Exit polls came yesterday but I have been saying this for a long time that people have made up their minds to bring the Congress party to power with a huge majority. Congress was in power from 2005 to 2014 and people have seen our achievements and when BJP-JJP was in power from 2014 to 2024, people have seen how they failed..."
BJP's National General Secretary Tarun Chugh said, "BJP will form the government with full majority in both the places (Jammu-Kashmir and Haryana). The BJP government will get the blessings of the people. The way Prime Minister Modi has worked for the poor in the last 10 years, he has built development and trust in Jammu & Kashmir. People are voting for BJP and the results will come on the 8th in which the corrupt and looters will lose..."

BJP National Spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari said, "In J&K, a BJP-led government will be formed...The elections which were held after the abrogation of Article 370 were a historical moment and a victory for democracy... I am hopeful that in Haryana also BJP will form the government for the third time...When results will be declared on 8th October, neither Bhupinder Singh Hooda nor Kumari Selja, a BJP CM will be elected"
On Haryana Exit polls, Congress leader Captain Ajay Singh Yadav said, "Congress will win more than 55 seats in the Haryana Assembly elections...We will get the full majority. The CM face will be decided by the Congress high command"
Congress leader and party candidate from Dooru constituency, Ghulam Ahmad Mir says, "This question is not only about Haryana. Elections are going to be held in 4 states in a row... BJP is going to be wiped out in Jammu and Kashmir. There is a good wave of Congress in Haryana too... Congress will form the government there (Haryana) with full majority. Elections are also going to be held in Maharashtra in the coming days and there too NCP-Congress and Uddhav Thackeray's party will achieve tremendous success...BJP will be completely wiped out in these elections"
On J-K Exit polls, CPIM candidate from Kulgam Assembly constituency, Muhammad Yousuf Tarigami says, "The public of J&K wants a non-BJP government to be formed in J&K...They want to elect a government that will raise their voices..."
The single-phase polling for 90 Assembly Constituencies in Haryana concluded peacefully on Saturday across more than 20,000 polling stations and recorded a final voter turnout of 65.65 percent.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), single-phase polling for General Elections to the Legislative Assembly of Haryana recorded an approximate voter turnout of 65.65 per cent as of 11:45 pm, which beats the Lok Sabha 2024 voter turnout of 64.8 per cent in the state.
Fatehabad topped the turnout charts with 74.51 per cent followed by Yamunanagar with 73.27, Mewat with 72.83, and Panchkula had the lowest turnout at 54.71 per cent.
National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Saturday dismissed the exit poll results for the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections and said only the numbers coming out at the end of counting on October 8 will matter.
"I'm amazed channels are bothering with exit polls especially after the fiasco of the recent general elections. I'm ignoring all the noise on channels, social media, WhatsApp Etc because the only numbers that matter will be revealed on the 8th of Oct. The rest is just time pass," Abdullah posted on X.
Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: The PDP candidate from Lal Chowk Assembly constituency remained confident about his party's role in government formation amid exit polls.
“According to us exit polls are not a serious activity but time pass activity. PDP is confident that it will be an indispensable & important part of the secular govt which will form in J&K. We had said that we are ready to take any step to save the identity of Kashmir but for this, it is important that we formulate a secular govt, a govt against BJP not with them. Even if the PDP makes any secular govt by extending support, it will not last long as they (BJP) will try to run this govt in Delhi style," the PDP ccandidate opined.
Exit Poll 2024 LIVE: NC Provincial President for Jammu, remained hopeful about his party's odds following the exit polls.
“The exit polls are showing the truth. The edge that is being predicted for Congress NC is correct. The people have expressed their anger against the present government...I am hopeful that the tally might increase," Ratan Lal Gupta added.
