Karnataka election result 2023 LIVE updates: JD(S) leader H D Kumaraswamy's son Nikhil loses in Ramanagaram

JD(S) leader and former Karnataka chief minister H D Kumaraswamy's son Nilkil on Saturday faced defeat in the party bastion of Ramanagaram, losing the seat to the Congress by 10,715 votes.

Anitha Kumaraswamy, the wife of H D Kumaraswamy, is the outgoing MLA of the Ramanagaram segment.

According to the election commission of India, HD Kumaraswamy's s on Nikhil is finding it hard to retain the family's bastion--Ramanagara seat. 35-year-old Nikhil Ramaswamy is behind Congress candidate by 13,459 votes on Saturday.

After suffering defeat to actor Sumalatha Ambareesh in Mandya in the 2019 Lok Sabha election, Nikhil Kumaraswamy entered the Assembly election fray this year. The Ramanagara constituency elected his grandfather HD Deve Gowda in 1994, his mother, Anitha Kumaraswamy, in 2018 (by-election), and his father and former Chief Minister, HD Kumaraswamy, in 2004, 2008, and 2013. This year, mother Anitha Kumaraswamy gave up her claim over the seat to pave the way for her son.

Will Nikhil Kumaraswamy be able to save family bastion Ramanagara today? As per the Election Commission's website, the grandson of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda is behind rival Congress candidate Iqbal Hussain. Hussain has secured 53282 votes while Kumaraswamy has gained 38982 so far.

JD(S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy is trailing from family's bastion, according to the Election Commission of India. Congress candidate Iqbal Hussain is ahead by 9,609 votes from Nikhil Kumaraswamy. In 2018, Nikhil's father HD Kumaraswamy defeated Hussain from the Ramanagara seat.

JD (S) leader Nikhil Kumaraswamy, the third generation from ex-Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's family, is leading from Ramanagara constituency.
