Bank Holiday Alert: Banks will be closed for two days this week in many parts of the country on account of Eid-ul-Ad’ha (Bakrid) and Bakri ID (Id-Uz-Zuha). According to the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) bank holiday calendar, public-sector banks (PSBs) and private banking lenders will remain closed for operations on June 6 and June 7. Banks will also be closed nationwide on Sunday, June 8, 2025, on account of the weekend holiday.
Account holders and customers are advised to check the RBI's holiday calender regularly to keep a track of the holidays. Bank holidays in India differ from state to state and are based on national, regional, and religious observances. These holidays can be either nationwide holidays observed across the entire country or state-specific holidays that are recognized only in certain states or regions.
Bank Holiday on June 6: To mark Bakrid 2025, banks in Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi will be closed on Friday, June 6, 2025. Bakrid is an Islamic festival that recognises Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son, Ishmael, as an act of obedience to God.
Bank Holiday on June 7: On Saturday, June 7, 2025, banks nationwide, except Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram, will be closed in observance of Bakrid, also known as Eid ul-Zuha. Known as the ‘goat festival’, the holiday marks the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son on this day.
Since Saturday, June 7, 2025, is the first Saturday of the new month, banks in Ahmedabad, Gangtok, Itanagar, Kochi, and Thiruvananthapuram will be open. According to the RBI calendar, the second and fourth Saturdays of the month are normally bank holidays. Notably, every Sunday of the month is a bank holiday. Therefore, on Sunday, June 8, 2025, banks will be closed.
