Union Labour and Employment Minister Mansukh Mandaviya, on Tuesday, 24 June 2025, said that the Employees Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has raised the auto claim settlement limit of provident funds (PF) for faster fund access, reported the news agency PTI.
According to the agency report, the EPFO raised the limit of the auto claim settlement for all the advanced claims to ₹5 lakh, compared to its previous level of ₹1 lakh for the EPFO members who seek to tap into the funds for their urgent needs.
The provident fund regulator launched the auto-settlement of advance claims during the global pandemic of COVID-19 in 2020, for the people to have quick financial access to the funds.
People on the social media platform X responded to the development in a positive way, highlighting that this move was a step towards the right direction.
“Great move by EPFO! Increasing the auto-settlement limit to ₹5 lakh is a huge relief for members facing urgent financial needs. Speedy access to their own money is not just convenience — it’s dignity. A step in the right direction!” said Kamar Alam Khan, a social media user responding to the news agency's post.
The retirement fund body added 19.14 lakh members on a net basis in April 2025, according to an earlier report from the news agency citing Labour Ministry data.
This addition in April 2025 marked a 31.31 per cent increase compared to the March 2025 levels, and a 1.17 per cent rise on a year-on-year (YoY) basis compared to April 2024, as per the news report.
The Ministry of Labour and Employment attributed the rise in EPSO members to the growing employment opportunities, increased awareness of employee benefits, and the retirement fund body's outreach programmes.
The data showed that the age bracket of 18 to 25 years has dominance in the EPFO group, adding 4.89 lakh new subscribers. This addition marked the share of the 18-25 age group at 57.67 per cent of the total new subscribers, according to the agency report.
As per the news report, nearly 15.77 lakh members who exited the EPFO rejoined in April 2025. Among the states in the nation, Maharashtra is leading in the net payroll addition to the analysis of payroll data.
