UPSC Aspirants Death News LIVE: Delhi Minister Gopal Rai on Sunday said that the government has given instructions to speed up the investigation into the deaths of three students following flooding in a coaching centre in Old Rajinder Nagar.
"It is very unfortunate the way the incident took place. For this, the government has given instructions to investigate it at a fast pace. An investigation is underway to find out the reason for this," Rai said while speaking to ANI.
He further said that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has also given instructions to take immediate action against the illegal coaching institutes running in the basement of a building.

Expressing grief over the mishap, Dharmendra Yadav, uncle of one of the deceased, Shreya Yadav, also claimed somberly that he was not informed about the death of his niece by the coaching institute or the administration.
He said that he learned about Shreya's death from the news and wasn't even permitted to view her body at the mortuary.

After three UPSC aspirants lost their lives due to flooding in a coaching centre, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Sunday called for strict action against those responsible for the tragedy.
Three UPSC aspirants died in the basement of a popular IAS coaching institute in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar area yesterday after its basement was flooded with water.
"When such an unfortunate incident occurs, We should not play the blame game and take action against those responsible... and action should also be taken against coaching centres that violate norms by illegally using basements," she told ANI.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Sunday condoled the death of three IAS aspirants due to waterlogging in the basement of a building here, and said common people are paying the price for unsafe construction, poor town planning and irresponsibility of institutions at every level.

Police have booked them for culpable homicide among other charges, they said.

Saurabh Shukla, Sub-District Magistrate, Ambedkar Nagar says, " We got the information that a student from Ambedkar Nagar, died from the incident that happened at night. So, as per the instruction of the district administration, we reached here...she was a very promising student, and she went to Delhi for IAS coaching...we have sought the report from the authorities..."
Nivin Dalwin, a resident of Kerala's Ernakulam lost his life in the incident.
CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MP V Sivadasan says, " We have visited the spot of incident and spoke to the family members of the victim. This shouldn't have happened...there is no proper drainage system in Delhi...coaching centre owners conduct classes and set up library in the basement without proper permission from the govt...we demand a safety audit of all the coaching centres and strict rules against them. The govt is promoting these coaching centres as the officials and authorities are collecting huge amount of money from coaching centre owners"
In a post in Hindi on X, Rahul Gandhi said, "The death of students preparing for competitive exams due to waterlogging in the basement of a building in Delhi is very unfortunate. A few days ago, a student died due to electric shock during the rains."

Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva and New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj visited the site and blamed the AAP administration for the incident, saying the local MLA had ignored repeated appeals by locals to get the drains cleaned.
"Delhi Government's criminal negligence is responsible for this mishap. Jal Board Minister Atishi and local MLA Durgesh Pathak should take responsibility and resign," Sachdeva said.
After seven hours of rescue efforts, the NDRF has ended its search at the coaching centre in Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar area where three civil services aspirants died last night when the basement of the building was flooded following heavy rains, officials said on Sunday.
Students held a protest and raised slogans against authorities outside the coaching centre over the deaths in the basement, which according to preliminary probe houses a library.
"Yesterday some students were trapped in a private coaching institute being run in Rajinder Nagar due to flooding and out of them three students lost their lives. This is very shocking. This incident needs thorough investigation and swift and strongest possible action," Oberoi said.
"It is also our responsibility to ensure that such an incident does not recur in any part of Delhi," the mayor added.
"Case registered under sections 105, 106 (1), 115 (2), 290 and 35 of BNS. This case is against the coaching institute and the management of the building and those who were responsible for the maintenance of the drain of that place...so far we have detained the owner and coordinator of that coaching centre...further investigation underway" DCP Harshavardhan told ANI.
AAP MP Swati Maliwal says, "The students are very sad and angry. It has been more than 12 hours, till now neither any minister of Delhi government has come, nor the mayor of MCD, nor any officer. I believe that these deaths are not a disaster, this is a murder, an FIR should be registered against all these big government officials. It is not yet known whether 3 have died or more have died. Compensation of ₹1 crore should be given to all the students who have died...The minister, Mayor should come here immediately and apologize to them. Delhi will not run like this. I will raise this issue in Parliament. I will keep all the demands of students in Parliament... The students are saying that 12 days ago they had informed the councillor that the drain system here is bad, so the councillor and all the people above him should answer."
Delhi Police on Sunday detained the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching centre, where three students lost their lives after the basement of the institute was filled with water, a senior police officer said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Central, M Harshavardhan also said that the police have registered a case against the coaching institute, the management of the building, and those responsible for the maintenance of the drain at that location.
Delhi Congress President Devender Yadav says, “...I do not want to politicise this whole issue but at the same time we have to see that today the (Delhi) government is proving to be a complete failure. It is not able to provide water, waterlogging is happening... Who permitted to run the institute in the basement? We should pay attention to this. Kejriwal ji continuously writes letters to maintain his position, but now we should also see the condition of Delhi today...His ministers are not able to do anything today. The situation is that the minister, who should have reached the spot immediately, has not reached there…"

The Delhi Police has registered a criminal case and asserted that it is determined to find out the truth in the tragic incident where three people lost their lives after the basement of a coaching institute was flooded in New Delhi's Rajendra Nagar.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Central, M Harshavardhan said, "We have registered a criminal case. Our forensic teams are here. The process of collecting forensic evidence is underway. We are committed to the fact that we should have a proper investigation. We are committed to registering a strong case and finding out the truth. Two people have been detained so far."

This is a completely criminal activity, strict action should be taken against the officials who are responsible... Delhi's drainage system has collapsed and the reason for this is that BJP was in power for 15 years. We have been here for the last 1 year and are working on the drains, but I do not want to get into any blame game, I want it to be investigated and strict action should be taken against whoever is responsible..."

Oberoi directed the MCD commissioner to take strict action against all such coaching centres across Delhi which are under the jurisdiction of MCD and running commercial activities in basements, which she said are in violation of building bye-laws and are not as per norms.
