The Mumbai Police arrested two people on Friday for attempting to gatecrash the wedding of Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant. Officials said that the duo had travelled from Andhra Pradesh in a bid to attend the ceremony.
“One of them who entered without permission is 26-year-old Venkatesh Narasaiya Alluri who is a YouTuber. The other person is 28-year-old Lukman Mohammad Shafi Sheikh who called himself a businessman. Both were taken into custody by the BKC police. Separate cases have been registered against them,” the Mumbai Police confirmed in a statement.
According to reports, the gatecrashes had made separate, unrelated attempts to enter the venue. They were later released after the police gave notice and took relevant legal action.
Anant Ambani and Radhika Merchant tied the knot on Friday in an extravagant ceremony that was attended by eminent personalities from across the world. The ceremony on Friday culminated months of pre-wedding events in India and abroad.
The event took place at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai. It was followed by a 'Shubh Aashirwad' ceremony on Saturday that also was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and numerous leading politicians. Shankaracharya of Dwarka Peeth Swami Sadananda Saraswati and Shankaracharya of Jyotirmath Swami Avimukteshwaranand also attended the event.
Visuals that have since gone viral show the couple touching his feet to seek his blessings. Photos of PM Modi standing with a beaming smile amidst Mukesh Ambani, Nita Ambani and the newlyweds have also emerged.
Political figures present at the ceremony included Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, among others. Bollywood luminaries such as Shah Rukh Khan, Salman Khan, Alia Bhatt, Ranbir Kapoor, Deepika Padukone, and Ranveer Singh also graced the occasion.
