Ed Sheeran in trouble? Despite having taken permission for it beforehand, renowned global singer Ed Sheeran was reportedly stopped by the Bengaluru Police from performing on a sidewalk in the city, reported Hindustan Times on February 9.
According to the reports, the English singer-songwriter was about a minute into his blockbuster number "Shape of You" on Church Street, ahead of the police pulled the plug on him.
However, Ed Sheeran posted on Instastory clarifying that they did take permission for the street gig. He wrote, “We had permission to busk btw, hence us playing in that exact spot, was planned out before, it wasn't just us randomly tunning up. All good though. See ya at the show tonight x”
A video of the incident is gaining momentum on social media.
Ed Sheeran was seen singing and playing his guitar in his impromptu performance in the 1.5-minute clip until the microphone was disconnected by the Police.
Sheeran started singing on the footpath without any prior announcement, gathering a lot of people on the street, following which the Bengaluru Police had to intervene.
As per the video, it appears, the police officers on duty failed to recognize Ed Sheeran and instructed him to stop the performance since he had not obtained the necessary permissions.
Currently, Ed Sheeran – four-time Grammy Award winner – is in Bengaluru for his scheduled concert. Earlier on Saturday, Sheeran performed in the city and is scheduled to take the stage again at NICE Grounds on Sunday.
Apart from this, the pop superstar also announced an additional concert date for Bengaluru following overwhelming demand for tickets after the initial tour dates were revealed, making Bengaluru the only city in India to host back-to-back performances as part of his record-breaking Mathematics Tour, reported Moneycontrol.
Sheeran earlier said that he is always excited to perform in India. “Every time I come back to India, it feels more and more exciting. The metric that you would have measured success by back in 2014, I would have no idea that people liked my music here. It wasn't until coming here in 2015, that I realised for the first time that people really like my music here. Whereas now, it's clear that India is my biggest market.”
The Mathematics Tour, or - + - = ÷ X Tour, – named after Ed Sheeran’s chart-topping albums ‘Plus,’ ‘Multiply,’ ‘Divide,’ ‘Equals,’ and ‘Subtract’ – marks his return to India after his performances in 2015 and 2017.
