Chaitra Navratri 2025: The auspicious nine-day festival is celebrated in India signifying victory over evil and is dedicated to worship goddess Durga. It is also known as Vasanta Navratri, where people perform prayers and rituals to receive blessings. This time, it began on March 30. However, many are confused when Ram Navami will be celebrated.
The ninth day or Ram Navami will be celebrated on April 6, Sunday. The festival marks the start of the Hindu New Year and culminates with Ram Navami, Lord Ram's birth anniversary, on the final day.

The Navami Tithi begins on April 5 at 7:26 pm and ends on April 6 at 7:22 pm. Ram Navami falls on April 6.
Brahma Muhurat: 4:34 am to 5:20 am, Pratah Sandhya: 4:57 am to 6:05 am and Abhijit Muhurat: 11:58 am to 12:49 pm.
Clean the home and the place where you will conduct Puja. Put idols or pictures of Lord Rama, Mata Sita, Lakshman and Hanuman. Place fresh flowers, fruits and tulsi leaves. You can chant Ramayana verses or perform mantras like ‘Shri Ram Jai Ram Jai Jai Ram’. Recite aarti during the Madhyahna period, particularly around the mid-point. Offer prasadam among family and friends.
The Ashtami Tithi of the Shukla Paksha for Chaitra Navratri starts on April 4 at 8:12 pm and ends on April 5 at 7:26 pm. As per Panchang, Ashtami is on April 5, Saturday.

You can chant mantras, prepare Halwa, Chana by inviting 9 girls to your home, seek their blessings. You should not cut nails or shave during Navratri, eat onions or garlic or non-veg food.
In North India, Chaitra Navratri is observed in states like Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, with temples performing special prayers. It aligns with Gudi Padwa, the Marathi New Year, in Maharashtra. It coincides with Ugadi, the Telugu and Kannada New Year, in South India. In West Bengal, it marks the beginning of preparations for Durga Puja later this year.
Both Ashtami (eighth day) and Navami (ninth day) of Navratri are thought to be highly auspicious for performing Kanya Pujan. Ashtami is often done in many regions as it's considered to be the more traditional day for Kanya Pujan, symbolising the worship of Goddess Durga’s strongest form and her blessings for protection and strength.
Ram Navami is closely associated with Lord Ram. According to Vedic beliefs, prior to Lord Ram's invasion in Lanka, he worshipped Maa Durga for nine days on the shores of the sea at Rameshwaram. He prayed to the goddess for victory in his fight against the demon king Ravana. Satisfied with his devotion, Maa Durga blessed him with triumph in the war. Lord Ram won the battle, killing him. The story of Ram Navami is also known as the Vratha Katha.
Ram Navami Shobha Yatra is a huge procession conducted through any city to honour Lord Ram's birthday. Devotees carry the palki (palkhi) or palanquin, which comprises Lord Ram's murti (idol). Numerous of them begin singing bhajans, dancing and chanting praises to Lord Ram.
According to a PTI report, the UP government planned to lit more over two lakh diyas in Ayodhya, the birth place of Lord Ram. Surya Tilak is the key focus, which will lead to the Sun’s rays illuminating deity’s forehead at 12 noon, marking Ram Lalla's birth. Divisional commissioner Gaurav Dayal stated all preparations were finished for Ram Navami.

Jadavpur University authorities have rejected the request of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) to organise Ram Navami celebrations on the campus. "The office of the registrar has conveyed to the ABVP’s JU unit that the permission to observe Ram Navami on the campus cannot be given considering several factors,” PTI quoted an official as saying.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee stated that Ram Navami should be celebrated with state's most famous festival Durga Puja. According to NDTV, she explained the logic stating, “We know that Lord Ram worshipped Goddess Durga during the autumn to get the blessing to kill Ravana. Our annual Durga Puja celebration is done at that point of time every year keeping in mind the worship of Goddess Durga by Lord Rama. Wasn't that Ram Navami also.”
Sharad Navratri is celebrated in Autumn. This year, the October Navratri will start from September 22 and end on October 1. The festival concludes with Vijayadashami, widely known as Dussehra, symbolising the victory of good over evil.
