Delhi airport roof collapse: SpiceJet and IndiGo have halted flight operations following a roof collapse at Delhi Airport's Terminal 1 early Friday morning, triggered by heavy rainfall. The airport authority has temporarily suspended services in the affected area until further notice.

Delhi airport flight status

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), SpiceJet announced, “Due to bad weather (heavy rains), SpiceJet flights have been cancelled as Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport will remain partially closed for operations until further notice.”

Apologising for the inconvenience, the airline asked passengers to contact them at +91 (0)124 4983410/+91 (0)124 7101600 for alternate options or a full refund or refer to http://changes.spicejet.com. "Please keep a watch on our Social Media channels for further updates,” the airline said.

IndiGo, in an official statement, said that flight operations are impacted due to structural damage to Terminal 1 at Delhi Airport caused by adverse weather conditions. The airline said that this has led to flight cancellations in Delhi as passengers cannot enter the terminal.

“Passengers already inside the terminal can board their planned flights, but those with flights later in the day will be offered alternatives. This unplanned situation has also impacted operations across the network. Customers are advised to keep track of and confirm their flight status before leaving for the airport,” the airline said.

Regretting the inconvenience, the airline said that passengers can call 0124 6173838 or 0124 4973838 to seek assistance regarding their travel plans. 

Hours after suspending the flight operations at T1, SpiceJet informed that all arrivals and departures from Terminal 1 are being shifted to T3, and IndiGo's services are being distributed amongst T2 and T2.

Delhi airport chaos

One person died and six people were injured after a portion of the roof of the Delhi airport's Terminal-1 collapsed amid heavy rains early Friday, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials said.

The officials said many vehicles were damaged in the incident, which was reported to the DFS around 5:30 a.m. They added that the injured persons have been shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
