The Ministry of Electronics and IT has appointed Bhuvnesh Kumar, an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI), according to an official press release on Wednesday, January 1.
“Along with CEO UIDAI, he continues to be an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India. Earlier, he has also served as the Joint Secretary in MeitY,” said the Government of India press release.
UIDAI is the official authority which manages the identity verification systems in the country. This includes the issue of Aadhaar numbers, maintaining and operating Aadhaar cycle, development of policies, etc.
Bhuvnesh Kumar is an IAS officer of the 1995 batch from the Uttar Pradesh cadre. Kumar finished his graduation from the National Institute of Technology and was a gold medalist.
Over the years, Bhuvnesh Kumar has held several important positions both at the Centre and in his cadre state.
Kumar entered government service in December 1993. Highlighting some of his key postings, Kumar was later appointed as the Assistant Magistrate & Assistant Collector of Mahoba district in Uttar Pradesh in 1996.
In 1997, he was made the Joint Magistrate for Meerut. After a few years in different administrative roles, Kumar was appointed as the Magistrate and Collector of Hamirpur in 2001.
In 2002, he became the District Magistrate of Kaushambhi for a brief duration. After this posting, he served locations like Lucknow, Aligarh, Ayodhya, Bareilly, Muzaffar Nagar, and Meerut.
His most important postings were when he served as the Principal Secretary in the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries in Uttar Pradesh. He was also the Secretary of Finance, Secretary of MSME, Secretary of Technical Education and Divisional Commissioner of the Department of Land Revenue in the Government of Uttar Pradesh, according to the press release.
“He was also the Secretary in charge of Sports and Youth Welfare, Planning, and Vocational Education among many other important positions in his cadre,” said the Ministry of Electronics and IT in the announcement release on Wednesday.
