Kolkata doctor case: CBI charges accused Sanjay Roy with ’murder, rape’ in chargesheet; excludes ’gang rape’

Kolkata doctor case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet in the Kolkata doctor's rape and murder case, including murder and rape charges against Sanjay Roy, but excluding gang rape allegations related to the incident, at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, CBI sources said on October 7.

In its charge sheet submitted to a special court in Kolkata, the CBI stated that Roy, who was employed as a civic volunteer with the local police, allegedly carried out the crime on August 9.

The incident occurred when the victim had gone to rest in the hospital’s seminar room during a break, as per reports.

Junior doctors continue protest

Meanwhile, agitating junior doctors in West Bengal continued their fast-unto-death for the third consecutive day on Monday, demanding justice for the rape and murder of the woman medic of the RG Kar hospital and workplace safety even as the state government remained silent to address their issues.

Since Saturday evening, six junior doctors have been on a hunger strike, with a seventh joining them later. Senior members of the Joint Platform of Doctors in West Bengal are considering joining the fast to show their support and solidarity with the junior doctors.

"Our fast-unto-death is on. We have not received any message from the state government. We will continue the protest until all our demands are met. No external pressure will be able to move us from our path of protest seeking justice for our deceased sister... It's now or never," Aniket Mahato, a junior doctor, told PTI.

Mahato of RG Kar hospital joined Snigdha Hazra, Tanaya Panja and Anustup Mukhopadhyay of Kolkata medical college, Arnab Mukhopadhyay of SSKM hospital, Pulastha Acharya of NRS medical college and Sayantani Ghosh Hazra of KPC medical college for the fast-unto-death.

The rape and murder of the trainee doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises on August 9 led to a nationwide protest. The agitating doctors' demands include the removal of the health secretary and increased police protection in hospitals.
