PremiumKolkata rape-murder case Highlights: The Supreme Court has resumed the hearing in the matter related to trainee postgraduate doctor who was found raped and murdered on August 9 morning.
A bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud, Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra will be hearing the matter today. On August 22, following the initial hearing, the court took suo moto cognisance of the case. The matter took a turn after the parents of the victim levelled bribery and negligence allegations on Wednesday against the Kolkata police.
The bench will also consider the recent application filed by the central government which accuses the Mamata Banerjee-led West Bengal government of being non-cooperative in assisting the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The central police force has been deployed to provide security at the RG Kar hospital.
Amid allegations of financial irregularities at the State-run RG Kar Medical College, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) officers on Friday conducted simultaneous search operations at the residences of the former principal, Sandip Ghosh and three of his associates.

The top court on Monday directed CBI to submit fresh status report on probe in the Kolkata Rape Murder Case by September 17.
The Joint Platform of Doctors, West Bengal demanded an unconditional apology from Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee, alleging a misleading post after the latter said that a young boy from Konnagar lost his life after bleeding for 3 hours without receiving medical attention, a consequence of the ongoing protest by doctors in response to the RG Kar Medical College incident.
The letter stated, "In your post, you stated that a young boy from Konnagar lost his life today following a road accident, after bleeding for 3 hours without receiving medical attention, a consequence of ongoing protest by doctors."
The letter said that this statement is categorically false and misleading.
"The young male patient, suffering from polytrauma due to a tragic road accident, was referred to a higher center from Srirampur and was received at R.G. Kar Medical College promptly at 9:10 AM on the same day, September 6, 2024. The doctors on duty immediately attended to him and continued to provide medical care at several intervals until his unfortunate demise at 12:30 PM, as noted in the provisional death certificate. The bed head tickets as well as the statement of the MSVP of RGKMCH will categorically substantiate our claim and refute your post," the letter stated.
The letter further said that contrary to the claim, the patient did not "bleed for 3 hours without receiving medical attention."

Meanwhile CJI Chandrachud refrained from making comments on the sample in open court and demanded a status report by Monday, He said, “Let CBI proceed on basis on what they are exploring, their leads."

CJI Chandrachud asked when was the death certificate given to whcih Solicitor General Tushar Mehta replied, “Death certificate given at 1:47 PM, entry UD (unnatural death) at 2:55 PM at police station," reported Live law. Thus, the case was registered almost an hour after the death certificate was given.
