CJI said, “Deeply concerned of the fact that name, photograph of the victim is all over the India. We are deeply concerned about the fact that the name, photo and video clip of the Kolkata rape victim was published all over. The law prohibits publishing victims' names. Is this the way we provide dignity to the young doctor who has lost her life?"
Earlier on Monday, CBI got permission to conduct a polygraph test of Sanjay Roy, suspected and arrested in the gruesome rape and brutal murder of the PG trainee doctor.
The autopsy report disclosed that the victim sustained more than 14 injuries to various parts of the body, including the head, face, neck, arms, and genitals. There was also clear evidence of forceful penetration, which pointed to sexual assault. The cause of death was identified as “manual strangulation combined with smothering."
Doctors protest continues
The protesting doctors want the CBI to catch the culprits and for the court to impose the maximum punishment on them. They also want an assurance from the government that "no such incidents occur in the future". The alleged rape and murder of the junior doctor in a seminar hall of the state-run hospital has sparked nationwide protests.

On Tuesday, Kolkata Police launched an investigation into former RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh for alleged "financial irregularities" at the state-run health facility, according to a senior officer. The investigation was prompted by the formation of a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) tasked with examining these financial discrepancies at the hospital, where the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered earlier this month.
The Federation of Resident Doctors' Association on Tuesday welcomed the Supreme Court's intervention into the rape and murder of Kolkata medic, saying it will serve the interests of the medical fraternity.
At Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, doctors' raised slogans like 'Supreme Court zindabad'.
"We welcome the exhaustive session by the Hon'ble Supreme Court and trust their intervention in the larger interest of our fraternity. We will consult with all our stakeholders before making a decision," FORDA said in a statement.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare wrote a letter to the heads of the Central Government hospitals and institutes, including AIIMS/INIs to enhance security measures across all central government healthcare facilities.
The letter stated, “It has been evidenced for a long time that government hospitals are more permeable to the public compared to private facilities, making it easier for unauthorized individuals to enter freely. While accessibility is important for providing care, it can also pose security risks. Hospitals sometimes become targeted by acts of violence, including assault on staff, which can be related to disputes, dissatisfaction with medical care, or external criminal activities. Ensuring the safety of healthcare professionals is vital."
"Violence or harassment against staff can disrupt operations and affect the quality of care provided to patients. Patient rush increases the potential for conflicts and security breaches. Addressing these concerns requires a comprehensive approach to security that balances accessibility with effective measures to protect patients, staff and the integrity of the facility," it added.

CJI DY Chandrachud noted, “Medical professions have become vulnerable to violence....due to ingrained patriarchal biases, the women doctors are targetted more."

The Supreme Court has mandated the National Task Force (NTF) to create action plans under two key areas: (1) preventing violence, including gender-based violence, against medical professionals; and (2)providing an enforceable national protocol to ensure dignified and safe working conditions for interns, residents, senior residents, and doctors, as reported by LiveLaw.

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose reached Delhi on Monday night amid speculations that he may meet President Droupadi Murmu and senior leaders. The West Bengal government has formed a special investigation team (SIT) to probe into alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where the body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was found earlier this month, according to a notification.
The four-member SIT will be headed by Swami Vivekananda State Police Academy IG Dr Pranav Kumar.
"I am directed hereby to constitute a special investigation team (SIT) to conduct enquiry and investigation into the allegations of financial irregularities in R G Kar Medical College and Hospital during the period between January 2021 till date," the notification signed by a special secretary said.
Taking to X, the TMC MP stated, “RG Kar autopsy in presence of judicial magistrate & 3 doctors: 1. Show NO fracture to pelvic girdle or other bones; 2. 150 gm refer to weight of inner & outer genitalia NOT to imaginary amount of fluid; 3. Does NOT suggest multiple assailants. Do NOT spread fake news please."
In another tweet, she urged doctors to resume duties. She wrote, “Genuine concerns about women’s safety in the workplace need citizens speaking out. But BJP playbook on misinformation & how to destabilise @MamataOfficial isn’t going to work. Poor patients are suffering - urging doctors to please resume duties."
