West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has called for a meeting with a delegation of junior doctors today at 5 PM at her official residence in Kalighat. This meeting is aimed at addressing ongoing concerns related to the recent rape-murder incident at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, according to a report by ANI.

Here are top 10 updates to know

The invitation follows a letter sent to the protesting junior doctors by West Bengal Chief Secretary Manoj Pant. The letter marks the fifth and final attempt to engage with the doctors. The letter requested that the same delegation that attended previous discussions arrive at the venue by 4:45 pm today.

The letter read, “This is the fifth and final time we are reaching out to you for a meeting between the Honourable Chief Minister and your delegates. In line with our discussion from the day before, we are once again inviting you to a meeting with the Honourable Chief Minister at her Kalighat residence for a discussion with an open mind.”

It further read, “We trust that good sense will prevail, and as mutually agreed and as per your statement to the media day before - there will be no live streaming or videography of the meeting, given that the matter is sub judice in the highest court of the country. Instead, the minutes of the meeting will be recorded and signed by both parties."

While speaking about today's meeting, a doctor said, “We demanded the live streaming to let the public know about what is happening inside in the meeting. We don't know what is their problem...We demand live streaming of the meeting...Our five demands are very justified...The public is supporting us because we are apolitical and we have not bent down to the pressures of the government...We are ready to compromise but if they don't listen to our demands then there is no point in calling us for a meeting…”

Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court had set a deadline for the agitating doctors to resume services and asked the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to submit a fresh status report on Tuesday, September 17. So far, five arrests have been made, including one of prime accused Sanjay Roy. The hospital’s ex-principal Sandip Ghosh has also been arrested in addition to two vendors and a security officer.

As per the latest update, Ghosh has been identified as "deceptive" in his responses during a polygraph test and layered voice analysis conducted as part of the investigation. Officials revealed this development following tests administered by the Central Forensic Science Laboratory (CFSL) in New Delhi, as reported by PTI.

According to a report from CFSL, New Delhi, Ghosh's version has been found to be "deceptive on certain important issues" relating to this case, officials in the know of the developments said as reported by the agency.
