‘It is fine, I understand,’ is how comedian Kunal Kamra reacting to BookMyShow dropping him as an artist and erasing all his shows from the platform amid the row which has risen over his ‘traitor’ jibe – a remark widely seen as an allusion to Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
Reacting to BookMyShow dropping him as an artist, Kunal Kamra asked in a post if he still has a platform to list his future shows. “Hello @bookmyshow can you please confirm if I have your platform to list my shows…" he said.
"If not it’s fine. I understand…”
Ticketing platform BookMyShow on Saturday, April 5, not just dropped Kunal Kamra from its artists' list but also erased all history linked to the comedian.
The development came after Shiv Sena Yuva General Secretary Rahool Kanal, who was arrested in connection with vandalism at The Habitat where Kunal Kamra performed, wrote to BookMyShow to ‘not provide’ platform to the comedian for his future shows.
Kunal Kamra once again found himself at the center of a storm after his remarks about Eknath Shinde during a comedy show at The Habitat in Mumbai, with multiple FIRs now filed against him.
To confirm the development between BookMyShow and Kunal Kamra, Mint searched for the comedian on the ticketing platform but did not find him. In fact, we also looked up one of his past shows but did not find anything—an indication that all traces of Kunal Kamra were removed from the platform.
After Kunal Kamra was removed, Rahool Kanal wrote a letter to BookMyShow CEO Ashish Hemrajani, thanking him for keeping the platform “clean and keeping such artist out of the list of pure entertainment”.
In his letter, the Shiv Sena functionary said, “I am writing to express my sincere gratitude for your continued support of you team to take the said artist out of your sale and promotion listing, thank you for even taking him out of the book my show search history. Your belief in maintaining peace and at the same time respecting our emotions has been instrumental.”
