Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case: Main accused Mihir Shah sent to judicial custody till July 30

Mihir Shah, the main accused in the Mumbai BMW hit-and-run case, was on Tuesday sent to judicial custody till July 30.

A 40-year-old woman, Kaveri Nakhwa, was killed after a BMW car driven by Mihir Shah rammed into a scooter on which she was travelling along with her husband Pradeep. The incident took place around 5.30 am on July 7, in Worli's arterial Anni Besant Road.

Mihir, who was absconding after the BMW hit-and-run incident, was arrested two days later from Virar in Palghar district.

Later, he was produced before chief metropolitan magistrate (Sewri court) S P Bhosale, who sent him to police custody till July 16.

On Tuesday, July 16, the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody.

According to the police, Kaveri Nakhwa was dragged for around 1.5 km by the speeding car before Mihir pulled it over, swapped seats with his driver Rajrishi Bidawat and fled in another vehicle.

The driver allegedly ran over her while reversing the BMW.

The probe has found that Mihir Shah sped off towards the Bandra Worli Sea Link even as the woman remained on the bonnet of the car and then got entangled in its wheels for a distance of a more that 1.5 kilometres.

The accused persons have been booked under various sections, including 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Mihir's father, Rajesh Shah, is a Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde) functionary from the adjoining Palghar district. According to the police, he actively ensured Mihir's escape after the crash.

Rajesh Shah was arrested after the accident for helping his accused son. However, he was granted bail the very next day.

Later, he was sacked from the post of the deputy leader of the Shiv Sena.

Rajrishi Bidawat, Rajesh Shah's family chauffeur, was also arrested after the incident. On July 11, the court sent him to 14-day judicial custody.
