Mumbai rains: The financial capital woke up to light rains on Tuesday morning amid yellow alert for pre-monsoon showers. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow warning for Thane, Raigad and Palghar till Wednesday, May 14.
Director of IMD Mumbai Shubhangi Bhute said, “There is a low-level trough which has caused discontinuity of wind patterns. These are favourable conditions for the onset of monsoon in Andaman by May 13, and a possibility of rain in Kerala by May 28,” HT reported.
"Nowcast warning issued at 9:30 am: Thunderstorm accompanied by lightning and light spells of rain with gusty winds reaching 30–40 km/h is very likely to occur at isolated places in the Mumbai Suburban district during the next 3–4 hours," Mid Day quoted IMD Mumbai as saying.
Mumbai, Thane, Raigad, Palghar, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Latur, Akola, Amravati, Bhandara, Buldhana, Washim, and Yavatmal. It could see thunderstorms with lightning, light to moderate rainfall and gusty winds reaching speeds of 30–40 kmph at isolated places.
Ahilyanagar, Pune, Kolhapur, Solapur, Satara, Beed, Sangli and Dharashiv.
The Central Pollution Control Board’s SAMEER app saw in its latest Mumbai weather updates that the city’s air quality was in the 'good' category, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 52 at 10:05 AM.
According to the SAMEER app dashboard, numerous areas across Mumbai displayed 'good' AQI. Bandra Kurla Complex saw 'good' air quality with an AQI of 79. Byculla, Malad and Kandivali witnessed 'good' air quality with an AQI of 29, 43 and 27, respectively.
Chembur, Sewri and Mulund also saw 'good' air quality, with an AQI of 38, 38 and 37, respectively. Meanwhile, Mazgaon's 'good' air quality stood at AQI 38.
