Pahalgam Attack News Highlights: The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea over the Pahalgam terror attack today, May 1, 2025, seeking to constitute a judicial commission. The plea also asks for directions to the Union government and the government of the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir to protect other tourists in Kashmir, reported ANI. Mohammad Junaid, a resident of Kashmir, along with Fatesh Kumar Sahu and Vicky Kumar, filed the plea.
On Tuesday, April 22, terrorists indiscriminately shot people in Kashmir's Pahalgam, claiming 26 lives. The attack occurred in Baisaran, also known as ‘mini Switzerland’. The 26 deceased included two foreigners, a businessman from Karnataka.

The Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on April 29 stayed the deportation of four members of a family who were at risk of being deported from India on allegations that they were Pakistani citizens, a Bar and Bench report said on Thursday. After the Indian Government cancelled all kinds of visas of Pakistani nationals currently in India, Minal Khan, a Pakistani national who was married to a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) constable in Jammu was granted a last-minute relief by the J&K High Court.
Khan's advocate, Ankur Sharma, told ANI that due to not having a long-term visa, Meenal Khan was deported to the Attari border.
Advocate Sharma also mentioned that Khan, who entered India on a visiting visa and had applied for a long-term visa after marrying Constable Munir Ahmed, was sent back amid tightened security measures.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday in his first public speech on the Pahalgam terror attack, vowed revenge and warned the terrorists, ‘har vyakti ko chun chun kar jawab bhi milega, jawab bhi liya jaega’ (every single terrorist will be sought after and punished).

Citing security concerns, Pakistan has announced the closure of specific portions of Karachi and Lahore airspace for four hours each day during May and put all airports across the country on high alert, a media report said Thursday.
The development comes amid heightened tension between Pakistan and Islamabad post the Pahalgam terror attack and Islamabad’s apprehension of retaliatory action by New Delhi.
“The restricted airspace will be closed daily from 4:00 am to 8:00 am local time between May 1 and May 31,” Express Tribune said, quoting an official notice.

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday to accord the status of a martyr to those killed in the Pahalgam terror attack.
In a post on X, the Congress leader said he stands with the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack and backs their demand that the victims be given the status of a martyr.
"I stand with the families of those killed in the Pahalgam attack in their grief and in their demand for martyr status to them.
"The prime minister is requested to respect the sentiments of the families of those who lost their lives in this tragedy by giving this honour to them," Gandhi said in his post on the microblogging platform in Hindi.
Following a week-long heavy rush of people from either side to cross over after the Union government ordered all Pakistani citizens with short-term visa to leave India in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack, the Attari-Wagah border crossing point between the two countries was shut completely on Thursday, sources cited by PTI reportedly said.

Himanshi Narwal, the wife of Indian Navy Lieutenant Vinay Narwal, who was killed in the Pahalgam terror attack, said that the families of victims want peace and justice.
Speaking to reporters at Karnal, Narwal said that she did not want people to go against Muslims or Kashmiris.
“We don't want people going against Muslims or Kashmiris. We want peace and only peace. Of course, we want justice,” she said.

India on Thursday reached out to South Korea in line with its diplomatic offensive to apprise the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council about the Pahalgam terror attack and its cross-border linkages.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul and is understood to have conveyed India's policy of "zero tolerance" towards terrorist.

The Supreme Court strongly criticised the counsels who filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) plea seeking the constitution of a judicial commission to investigate the April 22 Pahalgam terrorist attack in which 26 people were killed.
"Be responsible. You owe some duty towards the country. Is this the way.. Please don't do this. Since when does a retired High Court or Supreme Court judge become an expert to investigate such issues (terrorism)? We're not entertaining anything. Please go wherever you want me to go", the bench stated.

Amid the escalating tensions with India over the Pahalgam terror attack, Pakistan has appointed ISI chief Lt Gen Muhammad Asim Malik as the National Security Adviser (NSA).

National Investigation Agency (NIA) Director General Sadanand Date reached Pahalgam on Thursday to probe the matter, ANI reported.
On Sunday, the NIA took over the Pahalgam terror attack case from the Jammu and Kashmir Police and began its investigation into the Pahalgam terror attack.
The Pahalgam terror attack was carried out in the Baisaran meadow on April 22, the day when United States Vice President JD Vance was in India and PM Narendra Modi was on a visit to Saudi Arabia.
