In counter-measures against Pakistan for its support to cross-border terrorism, India took a slew of measures including suspending the Indus Water Treaty and closing down the Attari border. Pakistani nationals will also not be permitted to travel to India under the SAARC Visa Exemption Scheme (SVES) visas.
Home Minister Amit Shah has also asked chief ministers of states to identify Pakistani nationals in their jurisdiction and cancel their visas if they are overstaying.
India has also summoned Pakistan's top diplomat in Delhi, Saad Ahmad Warraich, and handed over the formal Persona Non Grata note for its military diplomats.
Meanwhile, New Delhi has also suspended ‘Government of Pakistan’ handle on X in India.
As the attack was reported and death toll rose, PM Modi cut short his foreign trip to Saudi Arabia and returned to Delhi. In a statement, PM Modi warned those responsible for Pahalgam terror attack, saying they will be brought to justice and “not spared”. Home Minister Amit Shah, too, rushed to the terror attack site and met families of the victims.

India reached out to the seven non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) over the Pahalgam terror attack situation and sought condemnation of cross-border terrorism.
AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Saturday met Pahalgam terror attack victim Shubham Dwivedi's family in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Speaking to reporters after the meeting, he said that the government should give terrorists a befitting reply.
“This family lost a young son, he had gotten married merely two months ago. Terrorists showed so much cruelty, husband was killed in front of wife. We can't compensate the loss of the family, but the government should give those terrorists a reply in their own language. They must be destroyed. We are with the government,” he said.
The Delhi High Court on Saturday refused to entertain a Pakistani woman's plea seeking a direction to the Centre to not suspend her residential permit and further extend the same.
Justice Sachin Datta, in a special hearing held during the day, said the decision of the Centre to suspend visa services to Pakistani nationals with immediate effect from April 27 did not warrant any judicial review as it was impelled by serious national security considerations.
Justice Datta asserted that it was not within the court's authority to carve out any exception to the Centre's order.
Pakistani health authorities have initiated "emergency preparedness" measures to secure pharmaceutical supplies in response to the suspension of trade ties with India, according to a media report on Saturday.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a meeting with Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora on Saturday and instructed him to ensure that law and order in the national capital is not breached in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, an official said.
The commissioner, who met Shah at the Ministry of Home Affairs, briefed him about the law and order situation in the capital, police sources said.
The home minister asked the commissioner to ensure that security is beefed up in the capital to avert any untoward incident, they said.
In the meeting that lasted for about half an hour, Shah also ordered to ensure that no Pakistan national is residing in Delhi.
The last rites of Army Havildar J Ali Shaikh, who was killed in action during an encounter between security forces and terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's (J-K) Udhampur, were performed with full honours at his ancestral home in Nadia, West Bengal on Saturday.
Havildar Shaikh made the supreme sacrifice during a counter-terrorism operation in the Dudu Basantgarh area of Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir.
Authorities in Kashmir have launched a massive crackdown on terrorists and their sympathisers in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, razing homes of the ultras, raiding their safe havens and detaining hundreds of overground workers for questioning, officials said on Saturday.
Houses of six terrorists or their associates have been demolished in the past 48 hours with officials saying similar action will be taken against others involved in terror activities.
Raids were carried out at more than 60 places on Saturday in Srinagar "to dismantle the terrorist ecosystem", a J&K Police spokesman said.
On being asked about Pakistan Peoples Party president Bilawal Bhutto's statement on Indus Water Treaty, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi said it is time for India to start taking action.
“I think the time for Indian government to talk is over and now the time for action has begun. We want to give a strong reply to Pakistani army and administration so that they can never repeat what happened in Pahalgam,” he said.
Gogoi emphasised that this is the right time to make Pakistan occupied Kashmir a part of India.
“Today is the right time to take POK and make it a part of India. In the all-party meeting, we had said that we will support the government in all actions against the Pakistani administration,” he said.
“We have made an additional request that there has been some intelligence and security lapse in Pahalgam. Those who have lost their loved ones want justice,” the Congress leader added.
Protest marches were held across Goa on Saturday against the Pahalgam terror attack.
Goa CM Pramod Sawant, who attended a candlelight march, said that India believes PM Narendra Modi will take steps to eliminate terrorism.
“Across Goa, in various places, a protest march has been held against Pahalgam terror attack and supported the decisions taken by PM Modi against Pakistan. People of Goa and state govt are with PM Modi. The country believes that PM Modi will take strong steps and terrorism will be eliminated completely,” Sawant told news agency ANI.
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh each to the families of the three persons from the state killed in the Pahalgam terror attack and to the next of kin of the Army havildar who died in the Udhampur encounter.
She said the state government would also offer a job to the wife of Havildar Jhantu Ali Shaikh from Tehatta in Nadia district.
Banerjee added that the state government would provide ₹10,000 pension to the father of Bitan Adhikari, one of the Pahalgam victims.

The security forces and Jammu and Kashmir authorities demolished the house of a suspect linked to the Pahalgam terror attack. The house, located in Chotipora village in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir, was allegedly linked to a terrorist involved in the April 22 attack, reported ANI.
Markets are closed on Saturday, April 25, 2025, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, as a mark to express solidarity with the victims of the Pahalgam terror attack, ANI reported.
While speaking on the Pahalgam terror attack, Odisha Minister Suresh Pujari told ANI, “... Enough is enough. The fight against terrorism is not only in the Indian domain. The Delhi government announced to enforce the Centre's order, revoking all existing visas issued to Pakistani citizens except for medical, diplomatic, and long-term visas.
"All existing valid visas, except Medical visas, Long Term Visas, Diplomatic & Official visas, issued by Government of India to Pak Nationals stands revoked with immediate effect from April 27, 2025," ANI quoted Home Department, Government of NCT of Delhi.
Buddhist monks at the Mahabodhi Mahavira temple in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, paid tribute to the Pahalgam terror attack victims on Friday. The monks at the temple observed silence and lit candles to remember the 26 victims killed in the attack.

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde paid tribute to Syed Adil Hussain Shah. He lost his life in the Pahalgam terror attack while trying to save tourists. Additionally, Shinde revealed that Shiv Sena will offer Shah's family ₹5 lakh as financial aid.
"This is not about caste or religion. The tourists who were there were being shot at indiscriminately by these terrorists, and this person tried to save them. He even tried to snatch the gun from the terrorists to prevent the tourists from getting shot. However, another terrorist came and killed him," Shinde told ANI.
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has condemned the Pahalgam terror, highlighted the need to hold the perpetrators, organisers and the sponsors of "this reprehensible act of terrorism" accountable, reported PTI.
"The members of the Security Council condemned in the strongest terms the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22, during which at least 26 people were killed and many more injured," UNSC said.

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Friday joined Congress leaders and workers in the party's candle march to pay homage to the Pahalgam terror attack victims.
The march was carried out from party's headquarters at 24, Akbar Road to Tees January Marg in Lutyen's Delhi, and culminated at the Birla House where Mahatma Gandhi was shot dead in 1948. Gandhi was accompanied by senior party leaders KC Venugopal and Ajay Maken and leaders of Delhi Congress.
The Indian Army has effectively responded to unprovoked firing by Pakistani military at some places along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir amid sharp escalation of tension between the two neighbours following the dastardly Pahalgam terror attack.
Military sources quoted by PTI said the Pakistan military resorted to the firing on Thursday, adding there were no reports of any casualties.
There is no official word from the Indian Army on the Pakistani firing and the Indian response.
Former Indian cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly said that India must break its ties with Pakistan.
“100 per cent, this (breaking ties with Pakistan) should be done. Strict action is necessary. It is no joke that such things happen every year. Terrorism cannot be tolerated,” he said, on being asked about Pahalgam Terror Attack.
Pakistan government has decided to halt the contentious canals project after India decided to suspend the Indus Waters Treaty in the wake of deadly terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Pakistan Rangers refused to hand over a BSF jawan, who inadvertently strayed to the other side, for the third straight day on Friday and remained non-committal on his whereabouts, official sources quoted by PTI said.
The jawan, Constable Purnam Sahu of the 182nd Border Security Force (BSF), was apprehended by the Rangers from a farming field along the Ferozepur district of Punjab on Wednesday.
Sources told PTI that the BSF has made multiple contacts and sought flag meetings with the Rangers to secure the release of its jawan but the response has "not been positive" till now.
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday held a telephonic conversation with Faisal bin Farhan, the Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia on the Pahalgam terrorist attack.
The two also discussed the cross-border linkages of the attack.
In a post on X, he said, “Had a telecon with Foreign Minister Faisal bin Farhan of Saudi Arabia. Discussed the Pahalgam terrorist attack and its cross-border linkages.”
