Sharmajee Ki Beti review: Netizens, critics give thumbs-up to Tahira Kashyap’s directorial debut on Amazon Prime video

Tahira Kashyap's directorial debut film in Bollywood, Sharmajee Ki Beti, released on Amazon Prime Video on Friday, June 28. The film features Sakshi Tanwar, Divya Dutta, and Saiyami Kher in lead roles. The women-centric movie released a positive response on the internet, with several social media users calling the movie a must-watch.

'Sharmajee Ki Beti' explores the aspirations, dreams, and coming-of-age moments within a multigenerational narrative of quintessentially middle-class women from diverse backgrounds.

On the eve of Sharmajee Ki Beti’s OTT release, Tahira Kashyap's husband and Bollywood superstar Ayushmann Khurrana shared a post on social media to shower love for the film.

“While we watch the match where sharma ji ka beta is leading our pack.. the big news is @tahira_k ‘s debut film #SharmajeeKiBeti is out! She’s a born writer/director since our theatre days. This will definitely warm your hearts. On @PrimeVideoIN,” wrote Ayushmann Khurrana on X.

Bollywood Hungama calls it "a sweet entertainer that works due to its relatability, novel funny moments and performances." As per Sukanya Verma, it is "Lightweight feminism".

'Sharmajee Ki Beti' screening

Several Bollywood celebrities, including Ayushmann Khurrana, Tapsee Pannun, Neha Dhupia, etc, joined the 'Sharmajee Ki Beti' screening held in Mumbai on Wednesday.

One of the lead actors of the film, Sakshi Tanwar, joined the event in a white saree, which was paired with a striking red blouse. The event was also joined by other actors, including , Fatima Sana Shaikh, Sonali Bendre, and others in attendance. Neha Dhupia attended the function with her husband and actor Angad Bedi.

While sharing the experience of directing the movie, Tahira Kashyap said that she had observed a personal level of storytelling experience associated with the five characters of the movie, Sharmajee Ki Beti.

"All of these five characters, there are three women and two girls, there is some amount of storytelling experience I have observed at the personal level... So it comes from a very pure place of heart," Tahira told PTI in an interview.
