Modi-Trump meet Highlights: Prime Minister Narendra Modi met US President Donald Trump in Washington DC in what the Prime Minister called an excellent meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House. “Our talks will add significant momentum to the India-USA friendship," Modi said on Thursday (local time).
The bilateral meeting between the two leaders was held in the Oval Office at White House. The two leaders discussed defence and trade deals, H1B Visas, immigration, innovation and more. This was PM Modi's first meeting with Trump after the US leader assumed office on January 20 this year.
Donald Trump's meeting with PM Narendra Modi was held soon after the US President unveiled a roadmap for charging reciprocal tariffs on every country that puts duties on US imports without any exceptions. Trump said he has 'decided' to impose reciprocal tariffs, saying US allies were often "worse than our enemies" on trade.

Donald Trump, who assumed office on January 20, has already announced tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports beginning on March 12, imposed 10 per cent tariffs on goods from China, and announced a 30-day hold on tariffs on goods from neighbouring Canada and Mexico.
Earlier in the day, Trump announced that his administration will soon impose "reciprocal tariffs" on trading partners, opening new fronts in his global trade war. While signing the executive order at the Oval Office, Trump said India has more tariffs than any other country.
