Israel-Iran ceasefire Highlights: Donald Trump insists Iran's nuclear sites ‘completely destroyed’

Israel killed at least 14 Iranian scientists in an unprecedented attack on the brains behind Iran's nuclear program, Israel’s ambassador to France Joshua Zarka said earlier this week. He also explained why these scientists were killed.

Ambassador Zarka told the Associated Press on Monday that Israeli strikes killed at least 14 physicists and nuclear engineers, top Iranian scientific leaders who “basically had everything in their mind.” Read the story here.

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) reiterated US Secretary of Defence Pete Hegseth's remark on the US "obliterated Iran's ability to create nuclear weapons," as reports on preliminary assessments from US intelligence indicate that Washington's military strikes on Tehran's nuclear facilities did not significantly damage the core of the Islamic Republic nuclear programme. EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas noted that Iran-Israel ceasefire was the moment that all parties related to the matter “return to the negotiating table”.

In a series of posts on X on Tuesday, the EU Foreign Policy Chief urged all sides who were involved in the conflict in the region to refrain from further violence and avoid escalation.

"The announced reprieve in fighting between Israel and Iran is good news but remains fragile. All sides should stand by this and refrain from further violence. All further escalation must be avoided," Kallas stated, highlighting the precarious nature of the ceasefire.

"The EU stands in solidarity with all those affected, including Qatar last night. This is the moment to return to the negotiating table. Let this be a turning point for the whole region. I will continue to work towards this end with all sides," she added.

US President Donald Trump said on X, "The nuclear sites in Iran are completely destroyed!"

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared a "historic victory" against Iran despite a US intelligence report concluding that American strikes set back Tehran's nuclear program by just a few months, as reported by AFP.

Another special flight carrying 282 Indian nationals stranded in conflict-hit Iran landed safely in New Delhi on Wednesday, taking the total number of people evacuated under Operation Sindhu to 2,858.

"282 Indian nationals were evacuated from Iran on a special flight that arrived in New Delhi from Mashhad at 00:01 hrs on 25th June. With this, 2858 Indian nationals have been brought home from Iran," the Ministry of External Affairs stated in a post on X.

The Ministry of External Affairs on Tuesday welcomed the 'reports' of a ceasefire between Iran and Israel, hours after US President Donald Trump announced that both nations have agreed to a truce.

A statement from the Ministry of External Affairs said, "We have been following developments overnight relating to the conflict between Iran and Israel, including the US action against Iran's nuclear facilities and Iranian retaliation against US military bases in Qatar."

Israel-Iran ceasefire LIVE: The Israeli military's chief of staff Eyal Zamir said the military was at "the conclusion of a significant chapter but the campaign against Iran is not over".

Zamir said that the military's focus was on returning to Gaza to bring back Israel's hostages and to "dismantle Hamas's rule," according to a statement by the military, news agency Reuters reported. 

Iraqi airspace has reopened and flights are now transiting it, flight-tracking website Flightradar24 wrote on X on Tuesday.

Iranian airspace is now open to international arrivals and departures to and from Tehran with prior permission, it added.

Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said Tuesday that his country was not seeking nuclear weapons but will continue to defend its "legitimate rights" as a ceasefire took hold with Israel.

"We expect you to explain to them, in your dealings with the United States, that the Islamic Republic of Iran is only seeking to assert its legitimate rights," Pezeshkian said during a phone call with United Arab Emirates President Mohammed bin Zayed, according to the official IRNA news agency. He added that Iran was "ready to resolve the issues... at the negotiating table."

A fragile ceasefire in the Iran-Israel war appeared to be holding on Tuesday, after 12 days of strikes that saw Israel and the United States pummel the Islamic republic's nuclear facilities.

After US President Donald Trump, who had first declared the ceasefire, angrily berated both sides for violating it, Iran announced it would respect the truce if Israel did, while Israel said it had refrained from further strikes.

Israel, in announcing it had agreed to Trump's plan, said it had achieved all its military objectives.

Oil prices fell about 5% to a two-week low on Tuesday on expectations the ceasefire between Israel and Iran will reduce the risk of oil supply disruptions in the Middle East.

Brent crude futures fell $3.29, or 4.6%, to $68.19 a barrel at 10:43 EDT (1443 GMT), while U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude fell $3.20, or 4.7%, to $65.31.

Israel-Iran ceasefire LIVE: The Israeli Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday evening noted that after a conversation between US President Donald Trump and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel has "refrained" from further attacks on Iran.

In a series of posts on social media X, the Israeli Prime Minister's Office said, "Pursuant to the conversation between President Trump and Prime Minister Netanyahu, Israel has refrained from additional attacks. In the conversation, President Trump expressed his great appreciation for Israel, which achieved all of its objectives for the war, as well as his confidence in the stability of the ceasefire."

Israel-Iran ceasefire LIVE: The Indian Embassy in Iran on Tuesday night said that it is winding up the evacuation exercise initiated during the Israel-Iran conflict. In a message on X, the Embassy said, “Since there has been an announcement of ceasefire, the Embassy is gradually winding up the evacuation exercise initiated during the military conflict in Iran.”

Israel-Iran ceasefire LIVE: Iran's President Masoud Pezeshkian said on Tuesday that it will respect a ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump provided that Israel also upholds its terms.

"If the Zionist regime does not violate the ceasefire, Iran will not violate it either," an AFP report quoted Pezeshkian as saying during a phone conversation with Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, according to the presidency's website.

Israel-Iran ceasefire LIVE: Air India Express is progressively resuming its services to the Middle East from Tuesday with flights to Muscat, Riyadh and Jeddah, a day after suspending operations to the region due to closure of airspaces amid escalating tensions, news agency PTI reported. 

The Tata Group-owned airline flies to 13 cities in the Middle East, operating around 900 flights per week. 

"Our first flight to the region today will be on the Delhi–Muscat route, followed by services on the Mumbai–Muscat, Kozhikode–Muscat, Kozhikode–Riyadh, and Jaipur–Jeddah routes," an Air India statement said.

Flight operations at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport have faced major disruptions since last night, with a total of 48 flight cancellations reported, airport sources said.

Of these, 28 were inbound and 20 outbound flights. National carrier Air India and budget airline IndiGo were the worst affected.

Air India cancelled 17 arriving and 10 departing flights, while IndiGo saw 8 arrival and 7 departure cancellations. Other airlines, including several international carriers, reported 3 cancellations each on both arrival and departure routes.

After getting Iran and Israel to agree to a truce, Donald Trump announced that the ceasefire was “now in effect, please do not violate it.”

Israeli Shekel has gained about 0.7 per cent after Israel-Iran declared ceasefire after days of tensions.

Iranian state media said a ceasefire between Iran and Israel came into effect at 7:30 a.m. local time on Sunday. Iran launched a final round of missile strikes at targets inside Israel just minutes before the ceasefire began, the reports said.

Hours after Donald Trump-announced ceasefire, Israeli military has issued another warning of an incoming barrage of missiles from Iran towards Israel. This is the fifth alert Israel has sounded since the ceasefire announcement.

The Israeli military has informed citizens they can leave protected areas, indicating the threat from a potential third wave of Iranian missile strikes has passed.

Israeli media has claimed that Iran has launched missile strikes on Israeli city of Beersheba. The Israeli media has said that three persons have been killed in the attacks. 

The United Kingdom has lifted advice for its citizens to shelter in place in Qatar after Iran launched a retaliatory attack on a US military base there. The announcement comes after US President Donald Trump announced that Iran and Israel have agreed on a ceasefire in military action against each other.
