Israel and Iran launched fresh attacks on each other overnight into Sunday, stoking fears of a wider conflict after Israel expanded its surprise campaign against its main rival with a strike on the world's biggest gas field.
Israel’s military said early Sunday it targeted Iran’s defense ministry headquarters in Tehran. Israel’s military also said it targeted sites it alleged were associated with Iran’s nuclear program around Tehran.
1. Israel's Defense Forces said in a pot on X that they have completed an extensive series of strikes on targets in Tehran related to the “Iranian regime’s nuclear weapons project.”
“The targets included the Iranian Ministry of Defense headquarters, the headquarters of the SPND nuclear project, and additional targets, which advanced the Iranian regime’s efforts to obtain a nuclear weapon and where the Iranian regime hid its nuclear archive,” Israel said.
2. Meanwhile, Iranian officials said, according to Iran International, that18 of Iran's 31 provinces have been affected by Israeli airstrikes. The report also shared a map of the major cities and regions targeted by Israel so far.
3. A video puportedly showed the moment of huge explosion in Shahran oil depot in western Tehran, Iran. Another video footage received from Iran appeared to show a refinery south of capital Tehran in fire.
4. Iran accuses Israel of killing Iranians 'in cold blood'. Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei wrote on X on Saturday, “Shameful: Israel targets peaceful nuclear facilities, bombs homes and kills Iranians in cold blood in blatant violation of international law."
5. Iran launched a second round of missiles against Israel late Saturday as Israel’s military kept up attacks in Iran following earlier strikes that targeted nuclear and military sites. Death toll from the Iranian missile attacks against Haifa has risen to three, Israel's Channel 14 reported.
Iran's True Promise 3 operation will continue until Israel’s destruction, said Ebrahim Rezaei, head of parliament’s national security committee, with "broader, deadlier, and more devastating" strikes to follow.
6. Israel said hundreds of airstrikes over the past two days killed nine senior scientists and experts involved in Iran’s nuclear program, in addition to several top generals. Iran’s UN ambassador said 78 people were killed and more than 320 wounded.
7. US forces were working to repel Iranian missile launches by land, air and sea, the Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday citing US officials. Jets, navy destroyers and ground-based air defenses were activated to defend Israel even before Iranian retaliatory strikes began, it added.
8. Iran so far has fired about 200 ballistic missiles in four waves and over 200 drones at Israel, the report cited an Israeli source as saying.
9. Israeli air strikes reportedly killed least 215 Iranians and injured 648 since the campaign began on Friday, human rights group HRANA reported. According to the Iran International, 51 of those killed and 31 of the injured were confirmed to be military personnel, it added, warning that the statistics remained preliminary.
10. The US and Iran had been scheduled to hold their sixth round of indirect talks over Iran’s nuclear program on Sunday in Oman, but Oman's foreign minister said that the meeting was canceled after Israel's strikes on Iran.
