Day after Operation Sindoor, Pakistan resorts to unprovoked firing across LoC, Indian Army responds

A day after the Operation Sindoor, the Indian Army responded to unprovoked small arms fire across the Line of Control (LoC) during the night of May 7-8.

The Pakistan Army resorted to small arms firing across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in Jammu and Kashmir.

“During the night of May 7-8, Pakistan Army posts resorted to unprovoked fire using small arms and artillery guns across the LoC in areas opposite Kupwara, Baramulla, Uri and Akhnoor areas in J&K. Indian Army responded proportionately,” Indian Army said, as reported by ANI.

'Operation Sindoor', India's retaliatory strike on terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK), in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, in which 26 civilians, including one Nepali national, were killed.

Pakistani army began cross-border artillery and mortar shelling along the Line of Control (Loc) in Jammu and Kashmir, killing at least 15 and injuring 43 Indians, defence officials said.

“Artillery firing by the Pakistan Army since last night has hit civilian areas in Poonch and Tangdhar. Caused the death of 15 innocent civilians and injured 43 others,” defence officials said.

Earlier on Thursday, civil defence mock drills were conducted in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Pune, Bengaluru, Gwalior, and Jaipur. These drills were meant to assess how local authorities and citizens respond to emergencies.

Among the worst-hit border areas was Poonch, Rajouri district in Jammu region, and Uri, Karnah and Tangdhar sectors in Kupwara district also witnessed the Pakistani shelling.

Meanwhile, countries such as United States, China and Russia have expressed concern about the escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.
