Israel-Iran war: Iran's foreign minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, on Sunday condemned Washington’s “brutal military aggression” against Iran's nuclear sites, stating that it is US and Israel who have repeatedly 'blown up diplomacy.'
“Last week, we were in negotiations with the US when Israel decided to blow up that diplomacy. This week, we held talks with the E3/EU when the US decided to blow up that diplomacy. What conclusion would you draw?” questioned on X, stating that as per Britain and the EU High Rep, "it is Iran which must "return" to the table."
"But how can Iran return to something it never left, let alone blew up?" Araghchi added.
On Saturday (local time),Israel pounded three of Iran’s most critical nuclear facilities—Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan— with 30 Tomahawk missiles and B-2 bombers.
According to a report by the New York Times, US strikes against Iran on Saturday, June 21, is the first time since the 1979 Iranian Revolution that the US Air Force has directly attacked major targets within Iran.
US President Donald Trump asserted that Iran’s key nuclear sites were “completely and fully obliterated” in an address to the nation from the White House.
Araghchi even condemned the US strikes on Iran's nuclear sites, stating that it was “an outrageous, grave” violation of the principles of charter of the UN.
“It is an outrageous, grave and unprecedented violation of the fundamental principles of the charter of the United Nations and international law,” Araghchi said during his speech in Istanbul at the OIC summit.
Iran’s top diplomat said he’s been in touch with several foreign ministers from the region and “almost all of them are very much concerned” and are interested in playing a role in stopping “the Israeli aggression.”
Abbas Araghchi went on to say he does not know how “much room is left for diplomacy” after the United States struck Iranian nuclear facilities.
“They crossed a very big red line by attacking nuclear facilities… We have to respond based on our legitimate right for self-defense,” Araghchi said.
