Indian-origin industrialist Pankaj Oswal filed an appeal with the United Nations this week after his daughter was ‘unlawfully detained’ in Uganda. 26-year-old Vasundhara Oswal was ‘seized by around 20 armed men’ on October 1 from a extra-neutral alcohol plant set up by the family. Local officials have linked her detention in an Ugandan jail to on ongoing missing person investigation — allegations that her family insists are wholly untrue.

A post on her social media platform alleges that Oswal was ‘detained among shoes’ for more than 90 hours without being allowed any relief during the night. She was not allowed to bathe or change her clothes during this time. those 90 hours. The post added that she had suffered an anxiety attack due to the terrifying circumstances which was not acknowledged by the officials.

Vasundhara Oswal was born in 1999 and comes from a family with deep roots in international business. She holds a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Switzerland.

Vasundhara Oswal was detained on October 1 and remains lodged in a local jail. An urgent appeal was filed with the United Nations Working Group on Arbitrary Detention earlier this week.

“This is all because of corporate jealousy from a 68 year old man who couldn’t take that she, a young 26 year old woman, became bigger than him in three years of her hard dedicated work, and wanted his competition to go down no matter what,” her brother alleged in an open letter to the Ugandan government.

According to a social media post on her Instagram profile, Oswal was not allowed to contact her family and lawyers after being detained — with authorities snatching her phone away.
