Gujarat Titans have suffered a major setback as star all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been ruled out of the remainder of the IPL 2025 due to a groin injury. Phillips sustained the injury during the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on 6 April.
Phillips had come on as a substitute fielder after the fifth over in the GT vs SRH match. During a delivery from Prasidh Krishna, Ishan Kishan played a pull shot and Phillips tried his best to save the single but the batsmen eventually completed the run and the ace fielder suffered a groin injury.
Notably, Phillips was picked up for a sum of ₹2 crore during the IPL 2025 mega auctions but has not featured in any game of the season so far. The Kiwi all-rounder is one of the best fielders in the world and is often seen flying around the ground to take some dazzling catches.
Prior to Phillips, GT were deprived of the services of South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, who left for home on April 3 to attend to an "important personal matter".
Gujarat Titans have yet to name a replacement for Rabada and it is not clear if the pacer will be back in action any time soon.
GT had bought just seven players in the IPL 2025 auctions and with Rabada and Phillips out of action, they are down to five in Jos Buttler, Rashid Khan, Karim Janat, Sherfane Rutherford and Gerald Coetzee.
Despite the forced changes, GT currently top the IPL 2025 points table having won 4 of their 5 matches with a net run rate of +1.413. Shubman Gill's side will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Ekana Cricket Stadium today.
