The 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 will have a new champion when Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Punjab Kings (PBKS) square off at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday (June 3). RCB have made it to their fourth IPL final, while Punjab Kings secured their second appearance in the title clash with a thrilling victory over a spirited Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025 Qualifier 2 on June 1.
RCB have been dominant in IPL 2025 under new captain Rajat Patidar. While Virat Kohli and Phil Salt have handled things at the top, other players have also contributed to securing their fourth IPL final berth.
Opposition | Result | Year |
---|---|---|
Rajasthan Royals | Won | 2015 |
Delhi Capitals | Won | 2021 |
Punjab Kings | Lost | 2021 |
Rajasthan Royals | Lost | 2022 |
Gujarat Titans | Won | 2024 |
Rajasthan Royals | Lost | 2024 |
However, the Bengaluru-based franchise had a mixed bag at the world's largest cricket stadium, with a 3-3 win-loss record in six matches in the last 10 years. RCB first played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in 2015 before returning again at the venue six years later.
What is more concerning for RCB is the fact that they were able to win just one match in the last four outings at the venue. While RCB's past numbers do not favour them in Ahmedabad, their current form speaks volumes with an ability to turn the tables when it matters the most.
RCB have played three IPL finals before, losing on all three occasions in 2009 (lost to Deccan Chargers), 2011 (lost to Chennai Super Kings) and 2016 (lost to Sunrisers Hyderabad). RCB will be hoping to be fourth-time lucky on Tuesday.
